One thing to be careful of though is the speed rating is often related to the overall performance of the tire. No there is no direct correlation, however you will find the sticky high and ultra high performance tires will always have higher speed ratings. Whereas the more pedestrian and lower overall performance, as well as the snow and foul weather tires will have a lower speed rating.

At this point there are no tires that even fit the 20" rims with any lower than a V rating (just below Z). But when it comes to the stock rims for the V6 cars that are under 20" be careful of this. If you look based on speed rating alone because you won't be going very fast, you may be sticking yourself into a low perfromance group of tires....

thanks for this information!! I can now go get some good tires that wont cost what the ones that came on the car cost... only at 16K and having to replace the in my opinion cheap quality tires. you paid for the name on the ones that came from the factory in my opinion.

WAAAAAA wrong answer, thanks for playing!! Obviously you drive VERY aggressive as you need tires at 16K. A very big part of the cars handeling comes from what tire it is equipped with. Put a lower grade tire with a harder tread compound on and your handeling goes right out the window, and that curve you were taking at wow MPH gets real dangerious because you don"t have the grip of the softer (read less wear) rubber, and the sidewall is designed for lower speed. This I know from experiance from purchasing tires for the 3 Corvettes I owned. Tire traction, performance vs long tire wear is a trade off. You can't have both. If you are looking for the same performance as the OEM tires, you have to get the same speed rating in an other brand name tire and not cheap out.

Nothing like a good open road to let her stretch her legs on.

There is nothing like getting a good open stretch of road where you can open her up. And yes, if you are going that fast you have more than likely thought and made sure all of your parts can handle it.
Atlanta Motor Speed way: 120.
Interstate Northbound: 135.

Always looking for a good open road without cops.
Cops=bummer. Unless you are one.

& Getting There is 1/2 the Fun. or more.

So, why do people replace their pirellis? I went continental DWS, but really do not see any benefit from the all season.

I want my Pirelli's back...

YES.....if the tire is DIRECTIONAL they can only be mounted ONE WAY they will have an ARROW pointing in the DIRECTION of rotation. hence the name.....DIRECTIONAL Tires.

YES......the letter designator your refer to is a MAX RECOMMENDED SPEED RATING. It has nothing to do with whether they are directional or not.
