Disadvantages of going v6 to v8 cost wise?
I'm thinking of changing from v6 to v8 how much would it be gas wise? My current camaro costs about $120-160 a month since I drive most of the time from and to work.
My question is how much of a gas difference would it be? I know v8 eats a lot more but how much would the difference be to fill up a full tank? Usually its $50-60 to fill up a full tank for me. Keep in mind I live in Canada, Ontario and these prices are in CAD dollars

I had the automatic V6 for 2 years and averaged 21 mpg. Traded it in for a manual SS and now average 19 mpg...... Not much difference, but keep in mind you should run premium gas in the SS. No regrets here!

That sounds too good to be true.. how? doesn't v8 eat more since it has 6.2L engine but v6 is 3.6L ? Doesn't really sound like it adds up but if its true holyshit i might as well sell mine asap

[QUOTE=huggett;8670287]It would cost the same to fill it up since the v6 and v8 use the same size fuel tank. QUOTE]
nope, V8 requires Premium, regular for the V6. Guess you could run reg on the V8(if you dare). |

I've been running regular gas(unleaded) on mine no problems. Just to confirm, so it would be the same gas wise for a v8? Doesn't really make sense... or will the v8 just eat 2x more faster gas than the v6 will?

My cammed LS3 gets 23 to 24 mpg regularly on the interstate as a DD. 90% interstate and 10% city driving. I run premium. Anything less and you get bad spark knock. If you can keep your foot out of it and the rpms down, it will surprise you. I am running around 1700 rpm at 70mph, so the engine is not doing very much. Gotta be disciplined if you expect to get good mpg in a V8, but its fun when you throw that out the window on occasion.

Not much mileage difference for the highway. I drive up north in az twice a month and in my v6 I would make it there and back and have about 1/3 of a tank left by the time I got home. I now have a cammed LS3 with 3.91's and have 1/4 tank left when I get home after the same drive. Pretty good if you asked me

It really all depends on how you drive. Guys claiming 19mpg probably don't get on it too often, or they spend a lot of time on the freeway. I drive mine like I stole it and even though I don't really speed, if the limit is 45 I often try to get there as quickly as possible! If you drive around town a lot, stop light to stop light, and drive the v8 camaro as intended, expect 13-14mpg. If you freeway, 17-19 is probably about right. Also, you can run regular all day long, just expect a little less power. The ecu will retard the timing automatically.

Whats your estimate of how much you spend a month on gas by just driving in town such as stop light to stop light? (in USD dollars not MPG or CAD if possible) I barely use the freeway and do town driving alot i spend around $150 a month on regular gas but as you mentioned I also push the gas much harder. Would appreciate if you can give me an estimate on monthly gas costs so I can compare? Also the longer u drive the more gas it will be compared to a v6 right? because v8 engine is 6.2L but v6 is 3.6L
