Dealer Oil change SMH

I know it's been posted before, but this for the new members. i have the 2 year free oil change for my car, today i had my second free oil change. after they brought the car around once they were "finished" i checked the oil right away and guess what? oil is low. i told my service guy about it and he said to drive up to the technicians shop and have this taken care off. when i got there i told the techs about it and they checked it. i asked them "how many quarts did you guys put in it" they replied with " 6 quarts" and im like " it takes 8 quarts, it's a V8" and then nothing but crickets. anyways, they put 2 more quarts in it and on my way i was. for those that have your dealer change your oil, please check the oil dipstick right away. i can not stress this enough. CHECK IT

Unfortunately this happens all too often. I won't let anyone change my oil but myself.

Good advice. Service centers work on a lot more V6s (6 quarts) than V8s (8 quarts). They probably have a tendency to have 6 quarts stuck in their brains when servicing Camaros. Gotta watch 'em. Always check the work they've done before leaving the lot.

I also have the free 2yr maintenance but I refuse to take my car there for oil changes as I just know the tech's just don't care....It is sad but so many horror stories.

I have not done my own oil since the 1970's, because time is money, but I have two shops that I absolutely trust and have built a relationship with (plus get all labor at shop rate - which is 50% of what the public pays). It benefits to be a car guy and have relationships with businesses you trust. Dealer ONLY if warranty work.

That's pretty sad. If a person doesn't have excellent attention to detail then he or she doesn't need to be a mechanic.

This kind of stuff is just too crazy for me to understand, it just doesn't compute in my head. I wouldn't trust that service dept. to clean my windshield. If I owned a dealership and had this kind of stuff going on heads would be rolling. No excuse for this.

What a shame.. that means they don't even bother to check the level .. Why I do everything myself.. I know what goes in and how it gets done. "There is no such thing as a free lunch" so true..

This is very true. I also think that the fact anyone who offers free oil changes usually offer "up to 6 qts". Just read or listen to the adds.....they all say it. Its, I'm sure, a habit. I would just remind my dealer when I took it in that its a V8 and takes 8 qts. And of course...always check their work.

This happened to me too. Although I did not check the dipstick, I checked the receipt where it stated 6 quarts.
