V4 mode
This may be a silly question but....how can you tell if you are in v4 or v8 modes?

Go to the fuel range display, it will bounce from v4 vs v8....be aware it seems seamless if you don't watch it chsnge, once you watch it, you'll think you have a huge problem with it changing.....lol

Interesting, because I can totally tell in my car. I can feel the shudder in the drivetrain when it switches. I have a 7 speed, you all?

My take is that if you consciously look for it, you'll feel it especially if you firmly grasp the shifter on a M7... but still a minor transition to/from though IMO so hardly noticeable.

I too have the manual and can feel the transition. Sometimes under light engine load conditions I don't really notice, at other times its quite evident by a momentary shudder in the car. This is usually when at low rpms (around 1000) and when load conditions change, such as going from level to sloped terrain.
I can easily understand how the auto trans will be much smoother, since the engine is isolated from the rest of the drive line at the torque converter. Us manual owners will always feel more as the clutch "direct connects" the engine & drive line.

There is one other way to tell when you go into V4, and just maybe this is what some of you are feeling or hearing, if you have your engine sound management set to off, it keep your exhaust valves open, however no matter what mode you are in (i.e. Sport or Track) when the stingray goes into V4 the exhaust valves will close, you can hear the valves close. Sounds kind of like a vacuum closing, the stingray goes quiet, tap the gas valves open and you’re back in V8 and the exhaust sound good again. GM defaulted to close the exhaust valves because they didn’t like the sound of the exhaust open in V4 mode. Also it will go into V4 whenever there is no load on the car no matter what drive mode you have selected. And of course if you’re in tour or a lesser aggressive setting with the engine sound management turned on the exhaust valves stay closed. You can rest assured that if you’re cruising on fairly level ground you’re in V4.

I have a 2011 Silverado and it is very noticeable and irritating every time it drops to V4. I actually took it back to the dealership to have it looked at and of course I got the typical "this is normal" answer. I'm praying I don't have the same issues with the C7 when I take delivery.

That and if you have NPP, you can audibly hear the change from V4 to V8.
