On my convertable he told me there were no hooks to hold down the tonneau cover. I actually drove it off the lot with the top down and cover on. Drove for about an hour at various speeds up to about 80mph then went home. Took it off and put away. Next time I went to put it on I saw the hooks, very obvious. If I'd have lost that cover he'd been buying me a new one!!

I honestly feel that pain. I am certain this would have happened to me as well, but thanks to the community here and the list that has been put together for dealers giving a good and fair price. I just checked the dealers on that list that were in Michigan, checked out their inventory on their websites and lucky me, we ended up finding exactly what I wanted.

HAHA! I had a similar experience at Tracy Chevrolet (CA)...

me "I want to drive a manual SS so I can decide between that and an auto"
salesperson "you can only drive it if you commit to buy it"

me "but I'd like to drive it so I know if I like it or not"
salesperson "we need to know you're going to buy it before we let you drive it"

I wasn't really clear on their reasoning. Needless to say I ordered my car elsewhere

Wasn't shopping. Just getting my free "first" oil change from the dealer I bought it from. So some schmuck comes up and starts telling me about the new Z/28. "Um you realize the one I just brought in for its first oil change is brand new right?" Anyway, wanted to tell him to shut the **** up, but then he told me the Z/28 doesn't have a back seat, I just tuned him out after that. Not my job to educate those people.

Look. This is fun. So don't go correcting salesmen. We have to leave them stupid for the next customer, its a right of passage to buy a car from a dumbass.

"The 1LE doesnt have a short throw transmission so i would have to get the hurst option on a 1LE for it to be a short throw"

"1LE has the zl1 magnetic ride suspension"

"the 1LE isnt elgible for GM family pricing because its limited production like the ZL1 and hot wheels edition"

................... interesting
Only a few reasons why I went somewhere else.

Not me, but one guy told my mom that a yamaha raider s (bike, 1851 cc's) was too much for her. She raised 3 hellions and beat cancer... Plus she's "big enough" for it. He lost a sale and the new kid made one.

That the rear differential in my 2004 CTS-V failed because the car's factory tire size was 245/45/18 and I used 255/45/18's on the back. This caused undue stress in the drivetrain as it was not engineered for such a wide tire. LOL

Not doing a lot of shopping and trusting my 20 year friend I almost bit, but I wanted to get my own financing so I left with the deal in hand. To make a long story short I ended up in a brand new 2011 2LT for $28,003 out the door and $500 more on my trade than I owed. My friend was PISSED and even said why didnt you let me try to beat that? I thought I was getting the "best" deal under the almighty "friends and family" price. Whats to beat? Do they brainwash these salesmen? My own friend tried to stick me, it seems like. Its still a touchy subject, but once I say "why do you have to beat the "best" price under the "friends and family" price? Why didnt I get the best price first from my FRIEND!". That pretty much ends that conversation.
To be honest from a guy who was in the car business I refrained from getting involved in selling cars to friends or family. Every time something goes wrong or they see one advertised for less, you hear about it. They decide after a week they don't want the car which happened with my wife's uncle. That was a huge mess. Last, the salesman doesn't set the price, the managers do who think because you are a friend or family member you will pay a premium to help a pal out. Trust me, I tried not to sell to friends or family.

Great story-
Typical lead in with a ridiculous "first pencil" and then trim away until magically a better number appears.

This is why you don't focus on monthly payment when buying.

Told me that the MSRP was the invoice price. Said burned out tail lights after 2 weeks and 400 miles was normal, wear and tear, and not covered under bumper to bumper warranty.
