2023 last year rumors

Lethal Garage posted a video on youtube yesterday discussing a rumor about 2023 being the last year of the Camaro, with some 2023's being held over for a 2024 commemorative edition. Is there anything to this rumor? I normally don't like discussing rumors... but for me and others that are trying to time buying the last year of the Camaro, this rumor, if true, would make a 2023 a better buy, assuming held over 2024's would be in a short supply.

GM is going to bring back the original Panther code name for the next gen. It will be derived from the C8 hybrid, and a special first edition will be a collaboration with Disney and the yet to be announced Black Panther 3 movie.

and I'm not even making this up for Youtube clicks.

Wasn't it Lethal Garage who said that starting in the 23 model year SS's were going to get the LT2 from the C8? Obviously that didn't happen.

I like this. Let’s spread it. If you say it enough times it must be true.

I need to come clean on this one. If Lethal got any of his information from published forecast data then he very well may have gotten that info from me, indirectly. When I was doing powertrain forecasting in 2018 and 2019 I had forecast the LT2 to go into Camaro. At some point in 2019 when I got better mechanical detail on some of the differences and it became clear that LT2 would not physically package in Camaro I changed the forecast back to LT1. Since GM is a customer of our forecast, he may have seen a chart created by someone at GM using our data. That could make it look like GM said it. I created charts and reports using IHS data all the time my last few years at GM and I often saw reports I created circulating for months and sometimes years after I originally created them. Lethal could very well have been looking at an old forecast I made.

I should also point out a point of weirdness. Before I left GM I sat in on a very detailed presentation that Small Block Chief Engineer Jordan Lee did for the LT6. He detailed displacement, FPC, design target range for output, and other details.

When I started doing the forecasting job at IHS the previous forecaster had forecast the LT6 displacement at 6.2L. Even though I knew it was 5.5L from the Jordan Lee meeting, I didn’t change it in the forecast because I got that info in a classified meeting. Eventually other information became available calling it a 5.5L so that was when I changed my forecast.

Thanks a lot for the clarification, James. Speculation is just that, speculation, and it's very easy to jump on Lethal and accuse him of making stuff up just to get views when it may not be the case.

The guy was very helpful with many, many of his 6th gen videos, so it's hard for me to picture him as a complete out-of-ass clickbaiter.

Yeah, that’s why I felt the need to put that out there. So much of his earlier 6th Gen info was on point and he was really good at “connecting the dots”. Thing is, GM has completely turned off the spigot on information around all things Camaro and most things Corvette, so he doesn’t have a lot of info to work with. I’ve talked to him a couple times at CamaroFest and find him to be a standup guy with a real passion for Camaros. That description fits a lot of us on this thread, so I tend to wanna cut him some slack.

Yeah, i feel the same way. A few of his videos were very helpful for wrapping my car. He's obviously a big Camaro fan. He was perhaps over confident in the LT2 speculation... but it was clearly speculation (one person with one inside source). He's labeled the 2023 last year speculation a rumor.

And because GM says so little about the Camaro it seems speculation is all we have. If there's a very limited 2024 year, and i can't get a 2023.... i guess it will be a Mustang Dark Horse.

Just to be clear, I didn't say Lethal Garage didn't provide any useful information for the Camaro enthusiast. I've watched several of his how to and product review videos and found them to be very helpful. His videos regarding changes to the Camaro have not necessarily been correct, like getting the LT2. Perhaps he should stick to what he seems to do best and stay away from rumors or speculation if he doesn't really know. Or at least make it clearer that what he is communicating is purelt speculation.
