Comparing Car and Driver SS 1LE/GT350 performance testing.

Now that C&D released their test results for the SS 1LE, we can compare them to their earlier test of a GT350 with the track pack. So same magazine, same testing procedures, etc, etc. Now, of course different days, but if you want to take that into account Motor Trend got a better 0-60 time for the SS 1LE (4.0).

SS 1LE - GT350

As tested: $45,700 - $59,970

0-60: 4.1 - 4.3

1/4 mile ET: 12.4 - 12.5

1/4 mile TS: 116 - 119

Skidpad: 1.05 - 1.00

Braking: 141 - 171

I think the results speak for themselves...

We need a mic drop emoji. That's the only way to describe these results haha

So glad I got my order in this morning. I feel like there is going to be a stampede (see what I did there) to Chevy dealers.

Wasn't the 5th Gen 1LE hard to find?

Not really. We picked up a leftover 2015 that was heavily discounted. You can find them, just quite rare.

Manual-only will save us. Dealers will order a couple, Millennials won't buy them because they can't (or don't want to) drive stick.

Might be the very last manual-only muscle/pony car since it looks like the GT350 will get a DCT soon.

I will buy manuals as long as I can...

2nd...I'm not the fastest guy on the track and that's not why I'm there. Manuals are more fun and engaging.

I'm 26 and I drive manuals only. I converted my Chevelle from a TH350 to an M22.

Great car for the price without a doubt, but Motortrend already did this comparison with the same driver on the same day. The C&D numbers make it look like the 1le would smoke the GT350 in nearly every metric which we all know isn't true. Different drivers on different days can play a big role in these numbers.

Motortrends Numbers.

As tested: $45,700 - $66,990

0-60: 4.0 – 4.0 Tie

1/4 mile ET: 12.4 - 12.2

1/4 mile TS: 114.2 - 118.9

Lateral Accel: 1.09 - 1.08

Braking 60-0: 94 – 101

0-100-0 13.1: – 12.5

Figure 8: 23.3 sec @ 0.86 g (avg) - 23.3 sec @ 0.87 g (avg) Tie

2.2-MI ROAD COURSE LAP: 97.77 - 96.11

The Fanboy Fail strikes again...

MT did NOT do this comparison already. As you posted numbers for a GT350R (and conveniently didn't mention it). I was comparing a GT350 (with the track pack), which I clearly stated to an SS 1LE. As that (even though the GT350 is still a nice chunk of change more) is a more fair match up. By adding the GT350R to the equation, you just added another $7000+ difference to the equation.

FYI, that huge braking distance difference isn't going to be made up by a "different driver, different day" either...

But even comparing the $20,000 higher priced GT350R to the SS 1LE, the SS 1LE still beats or ties it in 5 of the 9 categories...
