Sunroof Replacement Quality

My sunroof has chips on the top surface (seemingly from somebody smacking a beer bottle into it). The dealership can order a new glass pane and install for $1200. They center the pane onto the metal slider by eye. I'm concerned that centering the glass by eye will cause the black edging on the pane to be visible from within the car. Even off from by the slightest fraction will be enough to bother me. Its $400 more the sliding assembly - which to me is worth it if it guarantees a like factory sunroof.

If I order both the glass and the slider, will GM or their supplier send the two pieces already attached?

you should probably email this question to the service department of the dealership that will be doing the work.

Yes it was by a campus. & No, it is not that bad - I can probably play it off as dirt.

I am only 18 so I will not being going through insurance, 1500 is my premium.

Also, I am from a small town in Canada so the only options are dealership or Apple Auto Glass which did such a horrible job (when they replaced a smashed window + windshield) that I will NEVER EVER got there again.

Thank You dkp2LT,
I'll email patrick

Also, do you guys know if the headliner would be put back perfectly if they changed the sunroof?

I think the glass comes already framed and bolts to the slider with 4 bolts. No need to remove the headliner. Just get the glass and do it your self.

Really? So fitting the glass to the slider should be no problem? I was told 3 hours labour are needed just to pull the headliner back.

Don't need to touch the head liner to replace the sun roof glass.

And this is just one reason a lot of dealerships have a bad rep. Trying to hose the customer on a customer pay job, or they don't have a clue how to do the job so they figure they'll just charge way more labor than needed to cover the learning curve.

My body shop did the R&R in 30 minutes when they had to pull it for paint touch up.

Thanks Guys! Is there a way of knowing when the window screws are torqued to 8.5 N m/75lb in?

Most torque wrenches with a 1/4" drive have lb/in settings.

Here is a link to one:
