What I'd be interested in seeing is how it compares to the L99 in terms of weight, cost, and fuel economy. Cranking the boost up that high would have to have some impact on the efficiency of the engine, but on the other hand its going to have AFM & Stop/Start which should give it a fairly healthy improvement in fuel economy over other turbo6s. I believe the LF3 (the 420 hp twin turbo V6) comes in at 485 lbs, and that doesn't have any S/S hardware (like a beefed up battery & alternator system) or AFM bits. Wouldn't be surprised if it crests 500 lbs for a 'small' 3.0L engine, while the L99 at more than twice the displacement is 450ish. And cost ... no clue what the 3.0L with just about every piece of modern engine technology would cost, but the chances of it being less than an L99 are slim to nil. But it is an interesting engineering exercise. 6 cylinder engines with cylinder deactivation are rare, and I think this is the first time that an automaker has used forced induction on such a 6 cylinder, almost certainly the first time anyone has tried it at such high boost levels.

Regardless. It's an awesome engine. I just doubt it'll end up in the Camaro any time soon. We'll see. |

I kinda skimmed the details but I didn't see DI for the 3.0. No DI for that engine? I wonder why. Would have made more power with better mpg. Wonder if GM doesn't want that engine to have the problems associated with DI. I bet the 3.6 TT would have made just as much mpg but of course more power plus not having to spend all the new money R&Ding and producing a brand new engine. Kinda doesn't make sense to me unless they just wanted a more reliable engine for a more mainstream car.
The new NA 3.6 having as much power as a 4th gen LS1 is pretty crazy. We are for sure spoiled as far as power goes.

Direct inject is integral to the lfx, lgx, lf3 and lf4. Since this engine is based on those platforms, it almost certainly has DI. 18 psi and 9.8 CR aldo hints it isn't PI.

Well , if you think about it , the Current v6 only has 77HP less than the L99 SS Camaro.

Tell that to Honda, who has sold hundreds of thousands, if not millions of them, over the years.

No way a twin turbo V6 Camaro is coming out if the V8 will be barely more powerful, because it will probably be slower with all the added weight. It's a great engine, but it won't be in any plain old 6th gen
I'll even bet on it. |
