How Much Gas in the Tank?

How much gas do you put in the tank before you go to the drag strip? I've been going with about 1/2 tank.

Gas weighs a lot, so would it be better to have less?

On the other hand, the weight is right at the rear wheels, so more fuel could help with traction. Hooking up is always tricky.

Maybe it doesn't matter? Just looking for any little edge that I can get. Small things add up. What do you guys do?

I usually ran under half when I was serious about it.

Here's a link with some other opinions

Thanks for the link. That thread is probably 50/50 on this issue, with a few fights thrown in to make it interesting.

I'm on street tires, so traction is a big issue for me. Hooking up is a big problem. I know I need DRs, but I don't want to plunk down that much cash this late in the season. Really just wondering if running a full tank might improve my 60s.

You could alway do what the fellow in that thread did and try it different ways. My friend likes to run his with just enough fuel to not start the pump. He always takes fuel along in a support vehicle to drive home when he's serious. When we just want to run for fun, we pay no attention to it. We usually are pretty full in those cases because of getting home.

If you want to experiment with weight, you could buy a 60 lb bag of sand for $3 from Home Depot.

I'm on drag radials but I run with 1/4 to 1/3 of a tank.

I normally run slightly under a 1/4.
But in my best pass ever I was running near 3/4 tank and wished I had less

Thanks for all the suggestions. This coming weekend the weather is supposed to be about perfect. Tempuratures - low 60s, no humidity. Should make for some quick times. I don't want to commit to a full tank. It would suck if it didn't work and was slower.

I'm going with John's idea and using the bag of sand. I think I already have one in the garage. So simple.. yet perfect! I'll see how it goes.

Full tank. Helps plant street tires. If I was going to run a sticky tire then I run 1/4 tank.

Ok, two bags of sand! ..and a 1/2 tank of fuel, just to cover my bets. I weigh 135 lbs, so it'll be like having the driver in the back. I'll report back on Saturday (if the weather holds out.) .. I haven't been able to get under 2.01 for 60ft time and I think it's killing my ET.

Keep us posted.

I went 12.72 with your mods and on stock tires. I think my best 60 was a 1.92, I followed a Pro Mod or something.

Got rained out. The hurricane has rain backed up all the way into Ohio. Hopefully next weekend will be better.
