He took some basic height and width measurements and we matched them up with an existing application that he could use to apply and trim to fit. He ordered them, applied them and sent us the photo. From time to time we get emails from customers who have trouble applying their kits. The reasons are varied. Most are just minor issues stemming from minor install technique differences and lack of squeegee pressure on stronger curves. Two emails last week stood out. Both customers did not follow our included instructions and our DIY videos on our site / YouTube Channel. They followed this guys – which at the end of the video he states did not work and the material / install was not a success…

How NOT to apply a headlight protection kit:


The kit in the video is made from low grade automotive paint protection film, and not headlight protection film. Although similar they are very different to apply and in final result in a headlight application. Further compounding the customer issues (and leading to the failure and removal of the material the following day) was his not following the instructions for paint protection film – as that was what the material was. He applied with a soap solution, but never washed out the soap, so the material did not fully adhere to the light.

Paint protection film is applied with a soap solution, stretched into place as needed, flushed with an alcohol solution and squeegeed down. Heating the material is not recommended during application.

Headlight protection film is applied with just water, squeegeed in one location (usually an inner corner) tensioned and aligned to the other and squeegeed. Heat is used to help compress the material on strong compound curves. Some amount of physical effort is needed, the more compound curve the light has the more effort is applied. The lights should NEVER be removed from the vehicle to apply out kits. Some applications can be done this way but it makes the application at least twice as hard and in some cases nearly impossible.

When applying our kits please read the included instructions and/or watch our videos – there are more than 50 of them showing a variety of applications – before applying your kit. If you have questions and / or need clarification on some aspect of the application please let us know, preferably before you start your application.
