Oil Separator

I don't have a ZL1 yet...but I do plan on getting one soon. I have an oil separator in my SCAT charger 392. Is this something the LT4 guys are doing?

Why do people get them? Don't we have one stock?

All besides the 2650 is bone stock down to the air filter.

leave it alone...I have thousands of miles on track and see no ill effects with no catch can or separator regarding the LT4. On the previous generation LSA, I feel the catch can system is necessary.

I did 4 dyno pulls on a new clean TB with my 2017 ZL1 and the back of the TB had a lot of oil film on it. plus i took the SC lid off and i had little pools of oil collected in some of the valleys. i prefer the UPR catch cans so i am waiting on them to release theirs for the ZL1. Should be soon.

Chevy pays engineers hundreds of thousand of dollars the design these motors so the can take the hell that will be beat out of them and still warranty them, I’m pretty sure they accounted for the way the complete system works - all that oil everyone sees is probably needed for lubrication for the SC and wont hurt anything else - I wouldn't mess with it

Let me get this straight you want dirty intake valves and oil in you blower vs a clean blower and clean intake valves...

Blower comparison from my car oil change to oil change no can vs can.

Intake valves 10k miles vs 10k miles.

Notice my cnc work on last pick that area wouldn't be touch if it didn't effect performance.. and your saying deposits don't effect your car ok...

I can't wait to pull the blower in 10k and see what a difference port injection does the valves wonder if they will be clean like people say?

I have removed my stock lid and it appeared much cleaner than yours without a catch system. My car gets very little street action so that may be the difference. Of course I don't "want" dirty intake valves or oil in my blower...you sound like an infomercial for an air fryer...

My car is making 900rwhp and the shop which did the work said there was no reason to add a catch can on the LT4. As the guy above mentioned they were needed on the previous LSA.

Not to upset the apple cart but, wouldnt it make sense for any of these supercharged cars to come from the factory with a catch can / oil seperator installed. You would think that if letting the oil back into the engine would pose a problem that the manufacture would be proactive since there would be the chance of uneeded warranty claims. I get that running one appears to maintain cleaner internals, but personally, Im not sold on the fact that its " needed " so to speak.

The issues from oil consumption most likely wont show up until after the warranties have expired. Causing the customer to go back to the dealership and pay to address them. That's probably why manufacturers don't really care to address it. I actually think the new GT500 comes with one from the factory.

Ford Performance offers a passenger side and a driver side catch can for the 350. Which by the way, after installing, wont affect your warranty. It baffles my mind that GM and Dodge don't have similar offerings for their performance cars.

I have and Elite Catch can on my ZLE. I emptied it this fall after about 1000 miles of hard driving and the catch can was 1/4 full, if not more. The one on my Hellcat was also 1/4 full after about 1,000 miles. I bought both sides for my 350R to install in the spring. It's worth the peace of mind.

Why would you want that circulated back into your engine??? It's a fact that it will affect your valves once enough deposit is caked on there.

I don't know how long I am going to keep my ZLE but just in case I end up keeping it till my old age, the $400 for the catch can is worth the piece of mind.

Exactly my thoughts, the effects wont really show through the warranty period. Also keep in mind that oil added to the air/fuel mix reduces the effective octane of the fuel you use, and the rotor surfaces of the SC dont need and lubrication, matter of fact having a good coating of oil on the rotors and internal surfaces only attracts dust and particles that got past the air filter to stick to them and build up. Just my thought on it and my 2cents.

Wont putting one these on void you warranty? Seems as if I read several threads on here where the dealers were flagging cars with these mods, with issues like oil pump failures.
