Difference Between Headers And Open Headers?

If i am correct, i think open headers are just headers with no cats? Which voids warranty. Which sound better with the JBA Cat back? I know open headers is a lot louder but does it make it sound worst? Also there is no emission where I live.

Thank you for the quick response. I was considering an electrical cut out so I could keep my cats and thus pass smog if need be but still get the performance gain and sound of open headers when I want them. Do you think I am on the right track with that idea or have any better insight?

Not exactly. Open headers are no cats and no exhaust - and they're also stupid loud.

Better is all in personal preference. But yes they are a lot louder and do provide better exhaust flow.

A personal experience of mine in my roommates 02 trans am with a mechanical cut out (same as open headers) led me to like the sound in small doses. That's one reason a electric cut out has me interested since you can flip a switch and quiet her down. That experience also taught me that Nissans, Infinitis, BMW's, and Fords have more sensative car alarms than other companies.....

Yes, you will need a tune if you go for headers. The cat back by itself would not give you a CEL. There are a lot of threads with all the info you need in these forums.


And before you ask, YES a tune and headers will void your warranty but a cat back shouldn't

Tell me about it - it's even worse when you park in an underground parking garage.
