Is an oil catch necessary?

I've been talking to several individuals that have added an oil catch can to their different high performance sports cars. Is this really necessary since these engines have been designed to run the oil vapor through the intake, or will not installing one cause damage and future repair bills. Also, does this void the warranty in any way? What are the different thoughts, I would love to here what you guys are doing with your cars.

The ingestion of PVC oil creates deposits (pockets of oil) inside the air intake system and also creates valve coking on the intake valves. Is a Catch Can absolutely necessary? No, but take a look at this:
