Oil filter confusion

I couldn't get the search page to load. I got an AC Delco PF64 oil filter from Amazon. On the filter is #12706595. When I did a look up for AC Delco, the
PF 64 # is 19386865. What gives?

There's been updates to the PF64. As long as it says PF64 it's good. The PF64 I have is 25206377!

No worries, send it!

GM changes the PF64 filter more frequently than one changes their underwear. I am aware of at least two "update streams", see below, the final SKUs of which (25206377, 19419226) are both marked as available:

12640445 -> 12696048 -> 12706595 -> 25206377
19386865 -> 19419226

No idea what the differences among them, if any, are, I suspect supplier changes and the use of ever cheaper materials.

I loved the original 12640445 filter, by the way, it was sturdier, thicker and looked more robust.

Last oil change I used an Amsoil filter (EA15K50) along with their oil. Yes, I know it's 3x more expensive than these ACDelco filters, but boy, does it look and feel way more solid, and at $5 vs $15, nobody cares about the higher price (let the flame war begin ).

As long as you have close to a 22 psi bypass rating for the filter any quality brand will be ok.

This.

I am doing something similar. I started (last oil change) using their oil and filters in their service kit (for lack of a better term), instead of the Mobil oil and Delco filter I was using.

Thanks guys. This is crazy. Isn't there also a "longer" version of the PF64. UPF64R??

On another note, I'm having myM6 fluid changed today. What is the reason for the level to be 1/8 below rather than at the bottom of the fill hole?

Yeah but you certainly don't want a UPF64R (35psi bypass) and probably also don't want to dangle any precious bit of engine kit down below the pan where the speedbumps et al will remove the end of it in an unscheduled and violent fashion.

Which Amsoil oil did you go with? I was gonna switch on my next change as well.

The Wix WL10290XP oil filter is well made and has the correct bypass (22) PSI for the LT4 engine.

Added bonus: it's painted black to match my car!
