If you want a great steak or great southern cooking try Stampede 66 in downtown dallas. The place is amazing and the atmosphere is awesome. Get the 18oz angus cowboy ribeye you will not be dissapointed.

Tupinamba for TexMex!

Your going to get different opinions on what everyone has a preference for. For me Tupinamba is the best place. Nothing fancy about the atmosphere but great food and Margaritas and their Tuppy Tacos are off the chain! They've been around for a long time and are not a chain. They are a single mom & pop restaurant that have been attempted to be bought out by chains like El Fenix but owners refuse to go to chain.

I always like Deperados on Greenville back when I used to work in that area.

Blue Goose on lower Greenville is pretty decent but great location to be in a party location on the weekends.

Joe T. Garcias is very popular as well. Personally I don't think it's that great but it's always packed so it's obvious others do.

For BBQ....I like Railhead over in Ft. Worth. Great BBQ and cheap cold beer. http://railheadsmokehouse.com/ Rudy's is good as well.

For Mexican, I like La Hacienda Ranch, Gloria's (El Salvadore/Tex Mex), and Mi Cocina's

For other types of food, my favorite restaurant is Houston's or Hillstone (Same company). They have a nice variety of American cuisine and the service and food is exceptional. Gotta try the grilled smoked artichokes and also the filet steak.

El Fenix opened in Dallas in the 1940's and is a staple in Dallas. Eat at the original near downtown Dallas.
