Just some common sense says its not the oil burp problem as that would be handled with a "check the level" bulletin, I can only think it has to do with the recent failures, and the oil being contaminated or carrying mfr debris from the added Z51 components......can't be much else....

Here's another thought on when to change your oil. My car is a non Z51 and I changed my own oil when it turned 1000 miles. I was really surprised at how dark (black) the oil was with such a short run time. On my other vehicles I change at every 5000 and the Vette's oil looked every bit as bad as those do after much more mileage. I didn't use a magnet to check for metal or have any way to test for contaminants but the oil looked plenty dirty. I'm glad I didn't wait any longer before making the first change. Also you may want to take a look at your brake resevoir. At only a couple hundred miles I looked inside mine and it had some dirt-trash laying in the bottom. My dealer fished it out and said if it showed up again they would need to flush the system. Just something to think about, hope it helps

the oil on a lot of new engines turn black quicker than earlier gens, don't know why but I think it's that they run hotter than prev gens...its normal..in a turbo engine it goes black within 300 miles!

This info comes a little late for me as I just did my first (Z51) oil change at 5,610 miles. However, I did change out the oil filter in August when I had less than 2,000 miles on the odometer.

the bulletin is out, lot of blah blah blah but here's the reason:

Some 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes may experience a condition that leads to oil leaking out from the air cleaner assembly. This condition may be caused by running the engine continuously at a high engine speed with the first factory fill oil, resulting in silicone sealants in the engine’s gaskets degrading the oil’s anti-foaming agents. The oil foam has no effect on the engine’s durability.

Thanks Glen this puts it in perspective. I called the service manager at Phil Smith in Plantation, Fl. and read what I had here to him he had no notifications about this nor does my VIN indicate any sort of recall but in his words "if it was my car I'd bring it in for a oil/filter change it will be covered by the warranty" Bought it in this morning, they changed the oil and filter and added a service to my freebies.

I hit a little over 1000 on a trip to Houston for Thanksgiving, took it in on Tuesday right after reading this post, service Mgr said they had not been notified of this from GM but better safe to change out the break in oil and get the Mobile 1 full synthetic in there.

I spoke to my buddy who has a Z51 convertible and he said that he had seen an article where GM said that all the current cars coming off the line would not have a break in oil, only full synthetic ..........??

Does GM recommend synthetic oil for the (2014) Z51? When mine went to dealer service they did not use it.
