Aftermarket Tac needed after mods?

So curious on what the good folks here have done post mods regarding monitoring RPMs given mods move the redline up?

Ie..after cam, headers, porting blower, e85 convert, performance clutch….etc. my mech said redline will now move up higher.. given that…have many of you have aftermarket tacs vs just staying with standard knowing that redline is now starts 1k or 1.5k rpm’s higher?

Why change the tach, it will still read fine. If your mechanic is telling you your redline is now 7,200-7,500 rpm you might want to do some math with the pulleys you are running, the engine might live but the blower probably wont.

Good point bsn. I'm right at the edge of blower speed with 2.5 and 9.55. why would you put in a aftermarket tach? Im assuming you are a 6 speed car because you are worried about the tach. wait and see were the dyno says the hp and tq drops off.

No need for an aftermarket tach. With all my mods, yes it moved my power band to the right from where it was, but my stock tach still reads very well up to the 7500 rpm we pulled on the dyno. In driving my shift points are set to 7000, and my redline is set to 7200.. I'm an auto.

Basically mech expects (based on similar mods he has done with same engine/gen Camaros and vetts) the engine and blower to make power out to 7k before peaking…. Yes factory tac will read fine but with redline being higher…was just wondering if there was an aftermarket option that you could adjust redline on tac based on results of the dyno tune / engine mods.

I saw a couple options at car shows… some looked like crap..some looked more integrated (digital)..
