Carvana/VIN: 2G1FS1EE4E9699007 ?!
My first post here for the community.
I have never dealt with Carvana, but in my search for a HPDE replacement car, I recently came across a 2014 Z28 and I pre-ordered it. https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/39236 According to the listing and the VIN 2G1FS1EE4E9699007, it appears to be 2014 #007 However, according to the database, car #007 is silver! I also pulled the CarFax and it showed it as stolen? Anyhow, I am trying to get clarification from the Carvana robots, but I have a feeling that this group would know much more! |

Well, 9699007 is a CTF car, so that might be your issue.
Edit, It looks like 2015 #373 is also on their site, and for sale. Identical pics. I'm guessing they just need to load CTF 7 pics. Good luck on the purchase!

Thank you.
Yes, it is a CTF. It went in service on March 2014, auctioned off on October 2014 with 4,448 miles and then titled for the first time shortly thereafter. Then stolen in August 2017 in Texas. My law enforcement access shows it as still stolen! My information shows this VIN as a black car and stolen. I checked the database that shows this VIN as silver. Anyhow, this is very baffling while I wait for Carvana people… If I were not looking for a track car, I would not waste my time. |

Have you considered something else for a track car? I absolutely LOVE my Z/28 but I picked up a C5 Z06 to do HPDE. For the price of the Z you could have a killer dedicated HPDE car that isn't a potential collectable with expensive maintenance items (Brake pads/rotors).

I am attaching the CarFax for the community! It shows this car as STOLEN, and according to my law enforcement information, still not recovered.
I am guessing no one on this forum knows this particular 2014 Z28: 9699007 I am still awaiting CARVANA to tell me how they are going to sell me a car that is stolen and not found. In the mean time, I am looking for other options as I suspect that this transaction will not happen. CARFAX Vehicle History Report.pdf |

There's no way that any dealer would sell a car like this. No way in hell they'd be able to obtain a clean title. Unless the prior owner was made "whole" with a payout from insurance, notified that the car was found, insurance company took possession, got clean titile, then typically auctioned it off. The CarFax would show the auctioning.

I was buying one from them. Put a deposit on it and then it said reserved but that they were still inspecting the car. It never was finished being inspected for months then they said the car was sold. Not to me. Not sure what happened.

^Yes, I am the one with the deposit, which is only $100. At this point, I will leave my deposit alone and let them get back to me with some news! And I know that there is no way this deal will happen, and no way that I am not going to buy a Stolen car even as a track car.
I am now looking for other cars for my HPDE purpose. At this point, just informing this community/Z28 forum about this VIN. |

This car more than likely would have gone to the salvage auction after it was recovered. Unlike accident vehicles original owners are not allowed to buy back their stolen vehicles once they have been paid for them. (at least in most states) Then if a dealer bought it and got it salvaged inspected, but never put it back on the road, it could technically still show as stolen on the computer. Another thing is a lot of stolen vehicles have the vin plate taken or damaged so the car actually gets a new vin that the computer would use. So car fax might not recognize that and always keep the original vin listed as stolen?? The real question though is how come the car had 4,990 miles on 6/21/17 but carvana's website says it only has 4,743 on it now...??

If it was recovered by another agency, a "locate" should have been sent to the original agency, who would then confirm the steal was still active for the recovering agency and then the originating agency would remove the steal from NCIC. Only the originating agency can remove a steal. It is possible for the ball to get dropped and a vehicle to be physicaly recovered but the steal not removed from NCIC, although they are *supposed* to audit their data and validate that the vehicle is still stolen at certain intervals. (I've been a "full operator" for NCIC for over 16 years) *edit* Also, for the NCIC operators, remember it's a violation to release NCIC information to someone who can't receive it on their own, ie is not also an operator. It's very unlikely anyone would care for this sort of thing, but if your agency was audited and your query came up "I saw the VIN on a website" is not going to be a valid reason to run it. Nobody is going to pull your certification for it, but it's still a violation. |
