Rock vs Radiator

So the primary reason for me buying a new car with a warranty was to avoid repair work.

I'm pull in to my garage after work this afternoon and I smell coolant. That's obviously not a good thing on a brand new high performance machine. 2 thoughts come to mind. Blown head gasket(I'm traumatized) or coolant leak.

I pop my hood and find a little splash damage but no source. I keep looking around and look at the radiator through the bumper openings. Low and behold, I find a sprung leak. It looks like something managed to sneak through one of the openings ever so carefully caused the damage.

I can't say I'm too happy about this. More airflow they said. It's better for you they said. Little disclaimer: beware of of pebbles. I'm towing it in to the dealer tomorrow morning to get checked out and hopefully there's some kind goodwill repair here if it is indeed rock damage.

I ran some behind the grill on my 2003 Evo 8 after the first time straightening the fins on my $1200 aftermarket intercooler.... It took some very fine point tweezers and about 4-5 hours to get it right after a trip up to run the roads in Arkansas. Learned my lesson after the first and only time that happened.

On a new car like this, I would send it up for a Goodwill/Customer Enthusiasm warranty repair. I do those all the time for customers who bought new cars and get a nail or road debris in the tires right after they bought it. It's all up to the dealership, but it can be done even though its out of scope for warranty.

OP check with your insurance company. Things like this are usually covered.

Wonder how long it'll be before someone (zladdons, ahem) comes up with a "kit" for this how much they'll charge.

I have a good relationship with my salesperson and their SA's are top notch. I'm going to try some sweet talking and see what they can do to help me out.

Zl1addons is down the street from me. Might have to go see them about something for this. I was going to go down there and test for the custom rear rock guards but he decided the regular ones were the best bet.

How did you mount that? Did you just use the zip ties or is there an adhesive you use on the inside?
