FALSE

M4 GTS official NR time is 7:28. Thats a 9 second difference which is extremely significant.

http://www.bmwblog.com/2015/10/06/bm...e-728-minutes/

Cliffnotes:
- 500 hp
- CCB
- DCT
- Manually adjustable suspension
- Weight reduction

All results in very quick lap times.

At that point it comes down to who has deeper pockets. Stock vs stock the Z28 is the superior car. The M4 has a starting price of what $65k? Most well optioned ones will easily top 80k.. If the tires were that big of a concern theres no reason for there not to be better tires on a car of the M4's class and price point.
Tires are arguably the single most influential piece of equipment for track performance. There is a reason for BMW to not put Trofeo R level tires on the M4 stock, drivability. If all the sports cars in the world came equipped with such tires you would see ten times as many accidents. They are downright scary in the wet at high speeds. It's also much more difficult for a less experienced driver to find the limit on racing compound tires because they give less audible feedback before completely losing grip. Offering such tires on an extremely limited track-focused model (like Z/28 or in BMW's case GTS) is much less of a risk. Offering them on a higher volume vehicle bought for everyday driving would be stupid.

I never said they needed Trofeo Rs.... I didn't feel I implied it either that they needed to go to that level. But I agree with your point.

Have you ever analyzed the M3/M4. The point is that the car is under tire hello. Many new M owners complain about this. Can't expect to drive a car to it's full potential with such little contact patch. Imagine the Z28 with 1LE 285s on all four corners. The M cars need wider tires not higher grip tires.

In the real world M4s are crucifying 1LEs.
