GM to make Hellcat killer

...but not for the USA

Quote:
Sources inside GM say the SS, better known as the Holden Commodore in its native country Australia, will be receiving the 650 horsepower LS9 V8 from the last-generation Corvette ZR-1, and unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Holden is interested in exporting any

If this really goes to fruition then at least not yet, maybe...

Sadly, because they are singing their swan song. Australian built Holdens go out of production in two years. Not having to worry about future global emission and CAFE standards means they are free to go out with a big bang.

When I think of a car thats a _____ killer, I would think of something so dominant, so well done, such high performance, that the other car may as well not existed. As such, I don't see how a 650 hp Commodore is a Hellcat Killer.

Well if you consider that the SS here gets solid kudos over the Fiat entries and the LSA powered version was picked over the M5 in a Euro test, then yes, adding a 70 more HP may just do the trick.

I agree the term "killer" requires a level of "destruction without prejudice" that an LS9 powered Zeta II sedan may not offer compared the Hellcat. But you have to admit, it would be a fine comparison test.

Lets just say "viable competitor" and leave it at that.

Oh, and I'm just surprised there are any LS9's laying around waiting to find an engine bay.

GM still sells them as crate engines, and they have to keep making them for a while (or at least have the ability to do so) as replacement parts don't they?
