GM Design Director Defends C7 Taillights
GM Design Director defends C7 taillights.
He said, "We tried round taillights on the C7, but it made the car look old." Truer words have never been spoken.

I wouldn't have bought the car if it had round taillights, they don't fit the concept design

The tail of the C7 is an intergrated design, (well, the whole body, actually) Everything is very angular, intermixed with subtle curves. There are several lines that flow over the rear fenders, the hatch, and the tailights. All these lines agree, and create an exciting "fighter jet" look. This is very much a modern design. A similar interplay of angles and curves can be seen on the Aventador. A big congrats to Chevrolet for producing such an exciting car, with such great performance, great interior, at an affordable price.
I loved my round tailights on my 1989 Vert, but that was a completely different styling language. Round tailights on the C7 would just look "sad", and dated. |

They nailed it round doesn't work with that butt. I would like to have seen a smooth unbeveled lens but the shape is perfect.

I am SO glad they didn't put round tails on the C7. It's time to start a new tradition.

I agree whole-heartedly! And I've loved Corvettes for over 40 years.
If, for some crazy reason someone actually had to have round lights, I think the entire rear fascia would need redesign for improved look. To just put them on the current fascia (like all the photochops do) is about the worst way to approach it - it just doesn't work with round lights!
