HOLY S**T. I may have spotted < 400 HP Corvette Coupe?

Anybody go to the NY auto show last year at the javits center. Well upon entering the hallway that leads to the hidden away chevrolet room, there were two small cars that looked like they would compete with the BRZ and FRS. They were 2 door, rear wheel drive coupes but the crazy thing is that they had Corvette flags on them. I was very confused HOWEVER, after reading a thread on corvette forum:

"GM working on 2015 Low Cost Corvettte < 400 HP according to MotorTrend
April issue (page 13) states:

- a version of the 5.3 liter aluminum same as new GM trucks
- comes only as a hardtop
- changes to the front fascia, fender and diffuser to differentiate it from the Stingray."

Could this be the beginning of maybe a 6 cylinder corvette coupe that is a model below the stingray?

1) ZR-1
2) Z06
3) Singray
4) Corvette coupe (maybe even a turbo 6, turbo version of the camaro 6 cylinder)?

I need to look through my album when I get home to find pictures of the cars (hopefully I took pictures).

Just wanted to share my moment of clarity and see what you all think.

The TRU140S and Code 130R concepts don't have Corvette flags on them. They have similar badges but there are differences.

TRU140S is FWD Delta-II based. The Code 130R is Alpha based. Neither are what MotorTrend described, which would be Y1XX based.

Thanks, those were the cars I was thinking about, particularly the 130R. If you look on the fender, there are crossed flags that look similar to a corvette emblem.

There are, but they aren't Corvette flags. The 130R is being considered for production but it wouldn't be a base model Corvette coupe as the article described. It would be aimed squarely at Toyota GT86 and its variants.

My bad then, thanks for clearing that up. They look very similar.

However, it wouldn't be far fetched for there to be a 6 cylinder corvette. General reaction to a V-6 camaro (when done properly) has been pretty damn positive.

Who knows, maybe the 130R could be a platform for something along the lines of a cheaper corvette. Something that can target a new price point.

We all know that concepts sometimes look extremely different than production models.

Both the Code130R and TRU140S are production feasible. Meaning if GM wanted to give either the green light, they could go into production more or less unchanged.

Slightly OT, but I hope GM builds either the TRU140S or Code 130R to take on the FR-S/BRZ.

I'd be surprised to see GM make a <400 HP Corvette. Isn't that the space that would overlap in terms of customers with Camaro customers?

I don't see any overlap due to the backseat of the Camaro. I'd like GM to produce a lower cost roadster based on Alpha, but I'm not holding my breath.

For the history buffs out there, has any other car had an insignia as close to that of the corvette as the 130R. There has to be some meaning behind it. Maybe the same division doing R&D for the corvette worked on the 130R?

Have you been IN the backseat of a Camaro?
