If faster than the Ford GT, well, then it'll be faster than the ZLE by a wide margin. The GT ran 2:38.6 at VIR with Billy Johnson, a production record at the time (a short time later broken by the '19 ZR1), here's a list of a few other runs/cars (LL = lightning lap): C7 ZR1: 2:37.2 911 GT2 RS (LL): 2:37.8 Ford GT: 2:38.6 C7 ZR1 (LL): 2:39.5 McLaren 720S (LL): 2:39.7 Dodge Viper ACR: 2:40.0 C7 Z06: 2:41.3 Ferrari 488 GTB (LL): 2:45.1 ZLE (LL): 2:45.7 McLaren 650S spider (LL): 2:45.8 911 Turbo S (LL): 2:46.8 What this shows me is the ZR1 is in some serious supercar territory. Not a surprise to me at all. The ZLE is certainly in some impressive company. I would also imagine the 911 GT2 RS could beat the ZR1 if given a better driver than the LL folks. It is crazy fast around the 'ring. Ford GT article: https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...vir-viper-acr/ Corvette ZR1 article: https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...ir-lap-record/

I'm assuming you can't share with us who these people are or what kind of dyno they were on or how many of these they dynoed or who was driving the GT or if this is all talk or actually happened...

They seem to know many things ford before the rest of us. I do not have specifics of anything, just a very strong gut feeling they aren’t making it up. |

The rumor isn’t that the GT500 beat the GT’s lap time at VIR, it’s that It was faster than a particular GT that Billy was lapping at the same event and that GT was on pretty much wasted tires.
There are other rumors that the 500 is basically turning laps in GT4 territory, I’d rather just see Randy drive it. Vaughn Gittin Jr will be driving it at Goodwood today. |

So a GT500 can beat a Ford GT if the Ford GT is on wasted tires...

I don't see the point of the GT500 beating a Ford GT with the Ford GT on bad tires. That's like beating a Ford GT that is in limp mode. It does no service to either car to make Ricer statements like that. The Ford GT is a badass supercar. Even the ZR1 can't match it which says a lot. The only comparison that should be made against it is both cars on equal ground and at their best in their best condition in which case that GT500 would not stand a chance.

Now back to the subject. The severity of the wear on the GT350R's tires when it was up against the ZL1 was never specified. They just said it was used. These tires are not 1 use only. So it stands to reason that there was no impact on the car's performance. With the Ford GT, it is stated that those tires were pretty much trash. That heavily impacts the performance. Plus there was nothing official about this "race" and whether or not it actually even happened is speculation. |
