Exactly I use USAA and from November until April I get storage rates which is still full coverage for anything that may happen in the garage to it. The only thing you have to do is call them 24 hours prior to driving it so your full driving insurance will be active.

Insurance also goes by age and driving record. I pay around $115 for my truck, car and camaro combined with the car and truck being daily drivers.

Also, I put 5-7K miles per year on my 'garage queen'
how long will they store the custom plates?

Sometimes I wish I was older.

They do. Call them and ask about a 'garage policy'. During the summer I paid $70/mo since I drove it daily. Winter, with comprehensive but no collision, it was about $30.

We put ours in storage mode come late November until at least mid March. Coverage drops to just comprehensive and all we have to do is place a call if we want to take it out on a nice day, which the past 3 months there hasn't been any.

I do the same with my Ninja over winter, they drop it down to just comprehensive, I think. It's $1.25/month. It's fully paid though.

Not sure. I always pick mine back up in March or April after dropping them off in November. Call the local DMV and let them know what you plan to do. They should be able to help you out. I know DMV people get a bad rap sometimes, but they've been very helpful and courteous here.

When I got my insurance (geico) they challenged my estimate for annual miles saying it was well under the area average. I don't recall what I said my mileage would be, I know I said my commute was 0... We put about 6,000 miles on the car this year...we may get bumped up in our rates..

I pay for year-round, full coverage as, during nice weather, I'll drive it during the week. However, USAA offeres me a reduced rate as I only drive my 'vert 2k miles / yr. During the winter months, I'll drive her around the block every few weeks if the roads are dry. I just checked my OnStar vehicle report today and since November until today, I've only driven her 45 miles.

Gotta check out the USAA "storage mode", however. Have never heard of it. Would definitely be advantageous financially, combined with only getting 6 months of OnStar and XM Radio = great savings.
