6.3L

Read this in my new Autoweek.

Autoweek

Three- Valve Power Boost

If you think car companies have been spending all their engineering talent developing hydrogen-powered fuel cells or dilithium-crystal hybrids, think again. General Motors unveiled a 6.3-liter V8 with three overhead valves per cylinder (one exhaust, two intakes) that makes 470 hp at 6700 rpm and 385 lb-ft at 5600 rpm. Engineer Fred Rozario says the extra valve increases horsepower by 13 to 18 percent over a two-valve engine. Gm is not saying where we will see the engine, but the small block is ready to go and could be adapted for car and truck applications.

Would this engine be acceptable in your opinion as the top hp producing engine to be offered in the Camaro? If this engine didn't cost 12K to make like the LS7 and was relatively easy to drop in the Camaro (at cost as well), this would suit me fine. If the option of getting the LS7 were 4 to 5K more, I would have to do some serious thinking.

yeah ifthey only had this 6.3 and then the 7.0 i think i would be content with the 6.3 only being 30 something horse different from the 7.0. it also depends on what kind of after market accessories there will be for it. and im sure there will be some. but if a 427 were 5 g's more i would go with this new 6.3 probably

and that 5K is still in ur pocket for other goodies. Custom stereo box w/ subs, .......etc........ You know what? I was going to make that list of custom stuff longer, but I just couldn't. Looking at that car, I find it tough to see anything stand out that I would just want to customize right off the bat. It is just one sweet work of art. I'm sure in time, the headers will come along. There might be some intake done up by SLP. There'll be plenty of goodies.

I'll be holding off on the exhust for a few. Seems GM did quite a bit of work on that. Headers would be fine. I wouldn't do nitrous and sure as hell couldn't afford a supercharger. If I had to decide, I'd save for a supercharger. It's more reliable and you get the extra umph all that way through the rpm range. Never tried nitrous b4. A 6.3ltr 470 HP is going to be plenty of juice...and it's stock!!!

yeah but after you get that power planted to the wheels your only pushin about 420 ( maybe) my last t/a had 450 to the wheels with the supercharger and about 550 with the nitrous spraying. im definately doing nitrous, just in case i need it. plus its the greatest feeling being shot back in your seat and having the rpms shoot up.

I believe it. An old friend had a 2000 TA 383 w/ a Vortech supercharger. If I recall correctly, he was pushing something like 575. I could easily be off on that estimate (it was about 3 years ago). The thing about it is, he couldn't get the tires to catch. They'd easily spin w/out even trying in 3rd. And...and...he had Torque Thrust 17X11's on the rear. That was impressive. Sad part was he blew the engine. Last I heard from him, he was going to replace the engine going bigger than 383 and was going to keep the Vortech. Don't know how it panned out for him. BUT, I know how it felt w/ all that power. It was freakin KILLER. Made me feel like my engine was struggling to move in my Z28. We'll see what happens.

wow thats pretty crazy. you figure with 17x11 thats atleast a 315 on the back and he would be able ot hook up somewhat. i had 295 on the back of mine and could spin them whenever but on a regular launch it took off pretty good

Regular driving I'm sure was ok. But when he got on it, and I was in the TA w/ him, it spun through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd without any serious effort. That was impressive...
