What the hell is a $10,500 "dealer handling" charge?
$72k is about what I'd end up paying for a 3LT Z51 Coupe + options before Preferred Pricing/EVA (if I had the cash). I'd say your dealer is ripping you off.

One more thing.. When you say you pre-ordered. You should only have given a deposit to get an allocation. Once your allocation is available, then you actually order the specifics. Color, options, etc. I would find another dealer.

Go and tell them to shove the dealer handling fee you-know-where. If they don't, find another dealer. There are plenty who won't price gouge you with BS fees.

Stingray Chevrolet outside of Tampa, Fl. sells all their new 2014 Corvettes at MSRP + $99.00 dealer fee. You be the judge.

Is it fair? Easy answer...
HELL NO $10K "Dealer Handling Fee" ? What are they doing, giving it a full body oil massage and then milking the exhaust tips until they squirt liquid gold? Tell your dealer to charge someone else to "handle" the car for them, as they are RIP OFFs. I am paying MSRP and on a first year mass produced vehicle that will depreciate upon the first fart in the drivers seat, anything other than MSRP (or lower) would be robbery. |

Dealer Handling Fee = "Markup"...I was in the same position at the dealer I got my SS from. Talked to the owner, who wouldn't drop the "fee". So, I went to another dealer and ordered at MSRP + options. I'll have to wait longer, but I have more time than money...I think! LoL...good luck.

Here in Michigan Dealers are allowed by law to charge a "Documentation Fee" which ranges, based on my personal experience, from $25 to $135. GM does not allow that fee if you buy using GMS (employee) or supplier (forgot the initials) but otherwise it is pretty normal as far as I can see. $10,000+ would seem to me to be an excessive documentation fee and might rightly be called Markup per Fenwick. The documentation fee may be fair, I pay it when buying at invoice, but no, dealer markup is not fair and it is testimony to the lawyers that GM can do so little about it. GM has done things about it, Grimaldi's in Pontiac lost their Buick franchise for games playing customers and Maxie Price in Atlanta had their wings severely clipped for doing the same.
The best way to stamp out excessive dealer added fees is to not buy from that dealer. Before the internet and nationwide dealers it was difficult but these days entirely doable. Of course one needs to have some internet use capability and I would say anyone able to post in this forum has sufficient capability. Laborsmith Last edited by laborsmith; 08-25-2013 at 04:02 PM. |
