I worry about this for three reasons, of course it will hold you in during spirited driving, but...in the event of an accident:

1) Belts through headrest could injure your neck, and HANS device won't work with this...

2) No fifth point leaves open the possibility of submarining (sliding out through the bottom)

3) The harness straps lead downward to a point below your shoulders. Geometry and physics dictate this will compress your spine in a net-forward-momentum impact. (These seats aren't designed to support those forces to prevent it)

Not trying to be a debbie-downer...but these are things I've been told in the past by many high performance drivers, and amateur racers. I have also been told (because I've looked into this solution) that IF I chose to do it...I should plan to wear the factory seatbelt at the same time.

If you look at pro-racers, or manufacturer-designed harnesses, NONE of them are done up like this. All of which lead to my skepticism. I may be over-thinking it...

I ran this set up at Roebling a couple months back. It worked great for what I wanted it to do. I am very happy with the setup.

Was there an answer provided about which BMW model belts would work?

I used the universal Schroth Rallye 4 ASM harness. It has eyelets at all 4 connections. I am not aware of the BMW ones.

Hi Chub2000,
Who did you get the roll bar from? Who makes the roll bar? Looks great. We need more pictures when you get it finished. Thanks, Sam.

Chub...

Great looking cage, keep us all posted with pics on the rest of your install!

Curious what seats you picked?

Got my Studio RSR 4pt, Skid Mark Garage RSD kit and Driven seats installed and hitting the track in three weeks.

Have another thread going on trying to get the airbag light defeated.....argh......but really happy with the set-up other than that pesky airbag.

Good luck with the rest of your install....looking good!

Just got mine installed yesterday. I also do track events (HPDE) and this will be great. I do not think this would work for someone that is on the heavy side.
I'm 6'0 and 175 and drive with seat way up for the track and there is not a whole lot of adjustment out once I'm buckled in. I will try it tonight with my HANS and see how it feels. I think it will work fine with the device.

Did you buy the rear seat delete as a kit?
I have been looking for set up that fits this good. Thanks, Sam.

Yes, bought it from Skid Mark Garage. Very nice unit. I had to modify it to go around the cage. Good piece!
