What are the reason(s) for garaging during the winter?
Probably a ridiculous question to anyone up north, but I grew up in Florida, so I don't know. Why do people garage their Camaros during the winter? I understand doing it for convertibles, but coupe owners mention doing this too. I'm guessing it could be one or more of these reasons:
• They don't have all-weather tires on them • The road salt and other elements are so harsh (they want to keep their "nice car" nice) • Camaros don't handle well on snow and ice • Trunk monkeys can't adjust to non-tropical conditions

Summer only tires, road salt and cinders, not a primary car so why hog it up when you don't really need to.
Oh, and mine is always in a garage when I'm not using it regardless of the season. |

No need to get it all salted up when I have this as my DD. Oh and it has a 6.2 also
This is what it looked like as of Friday. Tomorrow will be worse as we got about 4" of snow today Until the salt is off the roads the car will stay tucked in Ryan

What Motorhead said...plus here in SE Michigan, the roads suck so bad in winter that you risk damage when you go out driving. Potholes, cracks, gaps, gravel...There is also tons of salt on the roads. Once the rainy season washes it away you know it is a little safer.

Wow, I can't even imagine having to drive in that in any vehicle. I guess I'd shelf my Camaro and use an alternate DD for the season too... or just take the bus.
And I hadn't thought about damage from the condition of the roads themselves.

Do you know what a Swiss army knife is? That's how I see my cars. I own 7 cars and they are like the blades of the knife. All would drive in winter, just like any blade in the knife would peal an apple. But only one blade is best suited for that task. My Camaro's are simply not the best vehicle for the snow. Plus, my 1982 Z28 is as it was 30 years ago when I bought it. My 1969 Z28 is far better off clean and salt free. My 1LE is a track car, not a snow and salt machine. I have 3 SUV's and a big HD2500 Duramax 4x4....why would I even consider driving a Camaro in this crap....it would be like pealing the apple with a can opener on the swiss army knife.

All of the reasons above however I keep mine insured, [It's paid for so I wouldn't have to] and do drive it once and awhile in the winter when the roads are plowed and it's cold enough that they are dry as well. I like to keep the parts and seals lubricated. I think the newer cars are better but I have heard many horror stories from people who have stored their cars all winter. Brake calipers hanging up. engine and tranny seals leaking, injectors clogged. Even damaged interiors from mice or other critters looking for warmth.

So I don't have to wash my car once a week like you all do.

Much rather take the chance of wrecking my winter beater than my Camaro even if it is an LS it still worth more to me than the cost of a winter car is.
