Is it OK to switch synthetic oil brands?

I have been using Mobil 1 from day one. I was wondering if it's ok to switch to a different synthetic brand after 30,000 miles of using Mobil 1?

I know there are techs who swear by switching oil often.
Different detergent blends remove different deposits... Eh. Just what I've heard. I stick to two brands - Rotella T6 and Castrol Syntec.

I used mobile 1 for 30,000 then Royal purple for the next 40,000. By now a lot have read the article on oils that were tested and I was considering Pennzoil ultra platinum until I see it no longer carries the Dexos 5 rating. Since it seemed to be pure synthetic base made from natural gas I was interested. I am holding off for now to see where this is going.

Your question really should of been, can you switch from one Group of oil to the next, as opposed to Brand.

Either way, yes you can.

Is that on their website? I just switched from Amsoil just to try the Ultra Platinum. I see on a couple oil charts it is still on the dexos approved list but makes me curious now lol thanks.

As for the OP question, I have switched a couple times, no problem. I just wouldn't switch to anything NON-synthetic or even a blend.

They have to pay every year to have the DEXOS logo on the label I believe.

I use Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Plat exclusively in all of my cars

Thanks for all the feedback. I am thinking about switching to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.

Pennzoil Platinum, Ultra Platinum and Gold are on the current dexos1 list:

Seems I read somewhere that ultra platinum is no longer certified and next year platinum will no longer be certified.
I plan to try ultra anyway as I don't think the product changed, just their choice of wether to certify or not.

I was a Mobil 1 guy until I started seeing the Amsoil test results and performance reports. I 'know a guy' that can help you if Amsoil is an option that's on the table.
