Decisions on tires. Nitto NT01 & Proxys R888

OK, so let me start with this. I DO NOT want a summer tire. I want DOT comp tires. With that said we also run into the tire size we will need to run. That makes the choices very slim.

I AM going to run the Nitto NT05Rs in the rear in a 315/35/20. They will be about 1/4 inch taller overall. No big deal. So the Rears are set.

Fronts are a bit more of a question. What are your thoughts?

I am going to run 1 of these for sure. Which one? 285/35/20

Nitto NT01 or Toyo Proxys R888. The Nitto NT01 is on worldwide back order in the size I need. But I do have time. The Nitto & Toyo are the exact same compound and overall size as well. Price does not matter. So we can skip that.

Experienced and logical thoughts would be great.. Thanks guys! I have added links to both tires below.

I am planning on running the NittoNTO5R as well on the rears great choice I have been told by my shop they are a good all around tire for the ZL1 but I have 80% of tread life left on the stock fronts so I will give them a try and see what happens. Don't really have an opinion on the other 2 brands you mentioned but if it was me if your going with Nittos I would probably stay with them!!!

NT05R is a drag racing tire. Waste of money to put a sticky tire meant for turning when your rear tires are only meant for going straight.

My car came with fresh Toyo 888s and from a grip/performance perspective, my LORD once they are warm they are the best tire you've ever enjoyed. They are stiff and loud compared to the Pilot Super Sport I have on my V but the ultimate grip and consistency is pretty incredible.

I'm kind of agreeing with jon6.0 but if you were doing a drifing event I could see that tire combination being perfect. The Toyos's are very good tires and unless you actually drag race the car you probably would be better off running toyos all the way around. The drag tires need an air pressure reduction to give you any traction advantage over a road racing tire and you probably don't want to drive at 17 psi on the street.

From what I've research the Nitto performs a little better the Too. And this BO deal going on with the Nitto's. If they don't get moving I'll be running the 888s. Both are great tires. I think the 315 is just a little big for the rear. Will probably create under steer some. Think I might go 285s all four corners and use a High Wing for a bit more pressure on the rear end

If you are running ng the NT05r on the rear, run the NT01 on the front. Toyo Proxes R888 are great tires but are very noisy. They howl like a "mudder tire". NT01s have to be quieter and stick just as well as the Toyos.

Guy I have not had a chance to track my car yet, it has been too cold.

Today the ZL1 is at Advanced Modern Performance getting a complete fuel system installed to safely support the power levels the car is making. (750+ rwhp)

I'll have some track feedback soon, but the 888/315 rear in very hard spirited driving has exhibited only throttle induced over-steer.

Switched to the NT01 and I'm much happier.

Does anyone have any experiences with either the NT01 or R888 in cool weather (40-60F)? Any better/worse than the goodyears?

I need something with better overall grip, want a stiff sidewall (no drag radial), and rain isn't an issue. But I do get quite a fee days with cooler weather.

And no MPSS either...I need the extra >60 grip more than the <60.

Both Nitto and Toyo warns against using the tires in sub 40 degree temps. My Toyo 888s cracked after driving them in Icy weather. Just curious, but have you thought about calling Nitto or Toyo to ask them these questions?

The majority of the ZL1 crowd is the show and shine type, check with some hard core road racing forums or just call the tire makers.
