V6 camaro bolt ons vs. V6 mustang tuned

Okay so there's a friend of a friend with a v6 mustang 2013 I think who has been wanting to race me so we've been thinking about headding to the track. He says he has just a tune and ghost cam au to trans. In my 2011 camaro I have a CAI cold air intake, a vmax I.M. spacer, mgw short throw shifter and vitesse throttle control.... I should be able to take him no problem right? Or does that ghost cam put up good #s

Mustang's weigh 200 lbs less and a lot more aggressive gearing in the 6R80. The 3.7L is underrated also, it pulls very hard at low RPM.

I don't think you cai is enough to help you....he has a tune. So I'm thinking he will beat you. There's enough comments that talk about racing. Just go out and do it.

Ghost Cam = creating tons of overlap with variable valve timing to make it sound like huge cams are in it.

with a stock cam or smaller cam? Why? (Obviously sound.) But do you actually get horsepower gain from this?

This is sort of accurate. The tune that causes the cam overlap at idle is in fact a performance tune. So, it's not just for sound but, people just assign it as such because it doesn't provide the same overall power gain that people associate with a cam swap.

For what it's worth, when I still has my Mustang, I think N/A V6 Mustangs were scratching at 12.4-12.6 with bolt ons. The boosted ones were in the 10.4-10.7 range. There's not much in the way of support for them and a lot of what they get is second hand from Coyotes. But to dismiss them would be ill-advised.

Make sure you take everything out of your car. Drop the pressure in your tires under 25 psi. And launch that thing best you can

What exactly do you mean by boltons. A v6 mustang running 12.4 to 12.6.....I need these boltons.

So a car that runs high 13s stock, shaves off 1.5 seconds with bolt-ons? I'm going to vote no on that one

CAI, Headers, Gears, tires, that is all that is needed. A Mustang V6 w/ Performance Pack runs 13.7 stock. My wife's Auto runs a DA corrected 13.1 with stock converter and summer tires.

Bolt ons. Cold air, throttle body, long tubes, off-road x/h pipe, gears, suspension work and tires. Suspension work is really just stuff to stop wheel hop. Some folks have other parts like ported stock intake manifolds, different clutch and driveshaft but, that's it. I know it sounds crazy on a Camaro forum but, they're not slow once you actually set them up to run. Most guys just do some sort of really lame axle back and lower the car and think they're going to cut 1.6X 60' times.

Oh, I forgot to mention tunes - a real one, not one of those cookie cutter Bama tunes.

Gotta get the MPT tune, that thing is powerful. Also everything is so much cheaper, gears are only $160, MPT tune is $70, you can fit 15" rear wheels with just a $40 sway bar relocation kit.

That's an old video, too. They've since consistently gone faster.

I know all about the MPT tune, I have one on my Camaro.
