It's all just talk for now. Will we see greater availability and offerings of EVs in the coming years, definitely. Will we see a 100% EV lineup? Not for a very long time.
Pretty much spot on. All the talk in the industry for the past couple of years has been EVs, EVs, and then a little bit more about EVs. What gets lost in perspective is that the timing for GM (and most other automakers) is that the timing to be totally (or even mostly) EV is 2035. That’s 12 years from now. That’s 2-1/2 to 3 vehicle development cycles. Which means that in that interim, ICE vehicles will continue to be upgraded and will continue to be introduced. Each company has a different cadence and strategy for what products are being shifted to EV when. In the meantime, those that don’t get shifted in the interim will get upgraded.

EVs will continue to launch at a fairly rapid pace, particularly by 2025, so we’ll see both ICE and EV in the market place for a long time. But we’re looking at at least 2030 before EVs are at volume parity to ICE.

What about the "30 EV models by 2025" goal?...30 announced and availability unknown? 30 revealed or just talked about but nowhere to be seen in 2025? By now I think we have learned it likely won't mean 30 models to choose from that you can actually buy and drive home in 2025? Or has that "promise" been just left to die on the vine?

This "Launch" business seems like just a lot of gm-speak smoke and mirrors with nothing to really get your hands on.

The “30 models by 2025” was pretty much smoke & mirrors when it was first stated and the automotive community pretty much took it in stride. Sorta like the “11,500 lb-ft of torque” for Hummer. Technically it’s true, but the way it’s defined it’s an answer to a question nobody ever intended to ask.

The 30 models includes product launched in China for China and also includes BrightDrop and Cruise. Even with the delays to Lyriq, Blazer, and probably even Silverado and Equinox, they probably still get to 30 by 2025 as they have defined it. GM was never specific about how many of those would be in US Buick/Cadillac/Chevrolet/GMC showrooms.

GM knows what butters their biscuits. They will continue to offer and make ICE vehicles as their market demands. Not to say that EVs are not innovative, but they are in their birth stages, where GM will have to work to improve real life reliability, where it will be as efficient to re-energe the EV as it would ICE vehicles. Other livability areas of the EVs will need to be addressed in order for it to be a viable alternative to ICE vehicles.

Can you imagine how much the battery/vehicle are going to weight in this thing?

Fen, since this is your thread, give us an update on the Canyon now that you've lived with it for a bit please.

I'm at 1800 miles. Only issue was a misaligned steering wheel that the dealer fixed. Doing a lot more highway driving now and I'm seeing around 21-25 MPG on the highway depending on how I drive.

I installed the Canyon accessory sill plates and molded splash guards, about to try to find a set of running boards.

Overall, still loving it. I get a ton of compliments on the paint color.

Safe to assume the battery will weigh about the same as the battery in Silverado EV. Weight will of course be a bit more than the Silverado EV.

We will need this "reverse charging" capability to cope with the rolling black outs that the EV mass adoption will bring us?

Seriously though, wouldn't this take a more complicated charging station setup, to go from DC back into a 220VAC adapter and then down to household 110VAC? Or a separate hookup for running in reverse?

I cancelled. I got the official order request submission email. The only available models are 2LT and RS AWD (no RWD, larger battery/range). No Super Cruise. No Bose audio. No Sunroof (on RS, somehow option on 2LT). I don't know what they're doing over there but i'm not going to force it. I can stomach 60k for an RS if it has every box checked. Hope GM enjoyed my $100 loan interest free for a year. I'll revisit this once availability improves, option packages are reworked, and the inevitable price drop.
