Any consideration to when to shift from the gas pedal to the brake pedal (at what distance), after all, 1.8 miles is so tempting..? And when such action takes place, any thought as to cooking the brakes?

And the verdict is?

Haha. It's 9 where I'm at now! Wasn't able to meet up with the people I needed to for the run tonight. Will look into doing it another night if it presents itself! I do understand the risk. This is why I'm pondering if the risk is worth the reward. Plenty of people have taken their vehicles out to top them out. There wouldn't any more air traffic that night!! My real biggest worry would be hitting a rabbit or snake doing 150+!

A couple things, are you a man or a mouse, and think how the rabbit or snake would feel. (ok that was dumb) Think about the risk your buddy is taking by doing this for you with his job, now thats a risk. You, well you didnt know it wasnt OK after hours, you dont work there. I am working on that very oportunity where I live. If I get the go ahead, Im doing it. I did it on my GSXR 750 in 1996, hit 140 and backed out of it, it was still climbing...I want to break my own land speed record, and not too many places would be safer than an airport. The airport wasnt even open at that time, just had a new run way poored, fricken stuff fantasies are made of there man.. Anyway, you only live once, and if something gets in your way at that speed, dont turn

I've had my bike up above 160 more times than I can count, because that is where the adrenaline starts kicking in for me. 186mph is my current max because that's where the limiter kicked in (before I removed it anyway.) It is just FUN, but I understand there are risks. The aforementioned animal in the way is my biggest concern. For me it would be a deer most likely, they are fast enough to run into my path before I could react, especially if they were being chased.

I only really let the hammer down in the daytime, when I can see a mile or two ahead of me. I also inspect the road and only cut loose when there are no obstacles to vision or traction, and of course, nothing to hit or hurt except myself.

My advice is that when you are pushing the envelope, limit the number of variables. Find the correct tire pressure for your speed run. Check your brakes, make sure it is a dry clean surface, have unimpeded vision - everything needs to be known, that way the speed is the only factor.

It would be better if you could build up to it, adding maybe 10 mph to your top speed on each run to get a little experience with the feel. Do not overcorrect, that would be bad.

BTW, know where you need to start braking.

Your car can do it. Enjoy it, but be smart about it. We want you telling the stories to your friends.

The FAA will not be happy about this. I would highly recommend you do not do this. You do not have the proper ID to be on the movement area of a controlled airport. That is very very very illegal and you will go to jail if caught.

What he said! I'm a pilot myself and I still haven't filled the proper paperwork to park inside the fence yet. I park outside the gates and walk to the plane. Since 911 there are laws in place to keep bad people out of controlled areas. I wouldn't advise you doing that. Remember most airports are federally funded with taxpayer dollars so unless you want one of the Obama girls driving your car to school this year don't do it!

1- I have to be at airport around 8:30 tonight to take a "tour" of the tower! (Obviously it's a tower operator who's getting me this opportunity)
2- I'll have a 10 minute "window" to do it! (After management leaves and I would have to leave the airport with the tower operators! Is it ever a good idea to do things after management leaves?)
3- It's my $55K car not theirs, so it's easy for them to say "DO IT! DO IT!"

Would any of you guys do this? Seems very risky to me, to possibly lose my car or worse get in trouble with the law! The operators assure me that it will be ok and it will be a clean surface from them walking it for the morning flights.
I am A Controller working in a Control Tower with a 8000 foot runway as the longest. As much as i would love to put my car out there, that's not going to happen. Nothing legal about it at all. Could i get away with it, probably but not worth losing my job over it. Can't imagine what would happen to those who would allow you to do that if someone got wind of it.. Just my 2 cents....

Remember when the air traffic controller brought his son to the tower and the boy gave directions to a pilot in flight. I am sure that seemed like it was OK at the time.

You may not break any traffic laws but I would bet there are several civil and federal laws that would be broken.

Image your car being impounded as evidence.

All airports including private ones are regulated by the Federal Government. FAA and TSA. Without the proper clearances to be on the runway or "Secured" areas, you are breaking the law. Regardless if you work there or not, they take it very seriously. Good case scenario, you get arrested and charged with tresspassing. Worse case scenario....uggh...use your imagination
