Correct Z51 Oil Filter

I posted this link in December showing a link to General Motors web site for dealers service departments. I zeroed in on C7 information that service personnel use.

http://sandyblogs.com/techlink/?s=20...&search=Search

Included in this information is the correct oil filter for a C7 Z51 application. The correct filter is NOT the PF64 listed in the Owners Manual. The site states "Z51 Oil Filter Replacement - This engine uses a special high performance oil filter, UPF48R or equivalent. Use of any other filter may lead to filter failure and/or severe engine damage".

I do my own maintenance so I will be using this filter on my Z51. I have not gotten underneath the car yet to see what oil filter came from the factory.

My question is: Has anyone changed oil yet on a Z51 and what oil filter came on the car?

Question 2: Why is there no mention of this in the owners manual?

In a recent thread people are talking about using after-market oil filters for the track. After reading this I would be concerned about that.

Same filters as the LS3. The C6 non dry sump engine uses the PF64 (blue in color) and the dry sump engine the UPF48R (black in color). The difference is the wall thickness of the shell (.022" vs. .015" on regular filters). As instructed in the manual used the UPF48R on my Grand Sport with dry sump.

The PF64 is the correct filter for the Z51 and non-Z51. I can verify that my Z51 came with the PF64 filter, and I've seen it on a number of other Z51 C7s.

On another C7 tech forum this same question was discussed at great length. The general consensus was that the PF48, UPF48R, PF64, and Mobil1 M1-113 were likely interchangeable on the LT1 as they were on the LS3/LS7. For me personally, I will use the Mobil1 when I change my oil the first time.

I went to the Chevrolet dealership today and got this straight. The original Service Document (17 Sept. 2013) that stated use a UPF48R was incorrect. Another updated Service Document was sent out Dec. 3 that corrected the mistake and states that only the PF64 is correct.
Use of any other filter may void the warranty if used and something goes wrong with the motor. The same wording is in the Dec. bulletin "use of any other filter may lead to severe engine damage."

I agree, use the PF64 AC Delco oil filter. I picked up a spare when I took delivery of my Stingray. The parts guys told me this was the correct filter for my Z51 Stingray. I won't be changing the oil anytime soon. I'll check the photos I've taken of the underside of the car. I may have one showing the oil filter that was installed at the factory.
