Help! Still some unanswered questions about Mobilistics relay disabler
I've been following the theft threads and Mobilistics remote disable relay looks pretty promising. I know it works when used to disable the starter. But still left with a few questions that I'm hoping some forum members can help with:
1) If you place the Mobilistics relay in the fuse box to block the starter, can you physically close the cover on the fuse box (is the relay similar in size to the OEM)? 2) Does disabling the starter and attempting to start the car result in any bad effects on the engine or computer system (flooding cylinders with excess fuel, triggering a CEL code "failed starter" that the thief might see)? 3) Has anyone figured out a way to use a Mobilistics relay to instead disable the fuel pump on an SS? I recall some saying the SS doesn't have a fuel pump relay |

2) Sitting in the car with the key fob and pressing the start button on the dash appears to trigger the normal start sequence - the gauge needles sweep, the seat moves into position (if you have seat memory), the radio comes on, etc. Just like you had started the car, except the starter does not turn over. No visible warning message is displayed. 3) There are some other threads on this. I think the consensus has been that there is not a plug-in fuel relay on sixth gens that the mobilistics relay can replace. Just repeating what I have read elsewhere though, unlike the former two answers which are from personal experience. |

1) Yes, the cover fits.
2) MIL is displayed on DIC when engine fails to start (it goes out the next time you start the engine). Engine doesn’t turn over so it seems unlikely that the ECU will command the injectors to spray fuel. HPFP is driven by the cam so there might not be much fuel pressure anyway. 3) My 2016 2SS doesn’t have a fuel pump relay. I think it was added in later years. Consult your Owner Manual to see if your car has one in the trunk fuse box. Contact Mobilistics support to see what options they offer for your car. Last edited by Mark114; 02-24-2024 at 12:47 PM. |

I’d rather have no crank instead of crank no fuel.

Agreed. I've heard some rationalize that a fuel pump kill switch is preferable because a no start would tip off a thief and lead them to the fuse box, but to me that doesn't square. Is it better that they can drive off, even if only around the block, before it dies? I much prefer the no start approach, but to each his own. |

I believe the use for no start is also just a better option in the event of a relay failure. While relays are pretty simple and don't fail too often they do. Add in the additional complexity of this relay because of the added remote control and now not as simple as a plain Jane relay. So more of a chance to fail, don't think a huge chance but still increased risk. So if this fails on the starter circuit it's a pain, if it fails on the fuel delivery side especially on a highway more of pain. Both fairly easy to resolve by simply having a spare relay handy. But rather change a relay at home or in a parking lot vs on the side of a highway.

Others have pointed out other reasons.

I've tried to start my car multiple times without using the Mobilistics remote, just to make sure it's working properly. I haven't noticed any CEL's or ill effects. I would advise that you contact Mobilistics for question #3. I believe that one of their employees has a 6th gen Camaro and they've done a lot of testing on it.

I Just Ordered One Of These And The Hardwired Transmitter Two Weeks Ago And The Relay Never Armed. Called And He Sent Me A Replacement That Came In Today And The Package Was Missing The New Relay. Guess It's Round 3

Sorry you're having issues. I received mine a week ago, installed the relay, and it's been working flawlessly.

Did you get it working? What are you going to tap into with the TX-21?
