Has anyone read about the premature failure of starters in the SS?
While looking for something else I came across this article about problems with the heat shields causing the starters to overheat and fail. Yesterday after driving the car for about 20 minutes I shut it off to get gas and the starter was barely able to turn the car over. I don't think it is a battery problem because I put in a new battery a couple of years ago.
This may be old news so sorry for posting if it's already been discussed. https://gmauthority.com/blog/2020/09...amaro-starter/ |

Brand new batteries only last a couple of years though. Could be the starter, but it also could be the battery too.

Yeah, it was posted here a few weeks ago. Regardless of the age of the battery that is the first thing I would have tested so you are not chasing this.

I just had my ‘14 SS sitting in 110 degree heat. Started right up. Drive home 75 miles in 95-100 degree heat with a/c on, stopped at home to unload the trunk, hopped back in and started back up no issues whatsoever. Maybe the issue is related to starters with some mileage on them? I’ve got 24k, so still fairly new.
I have an ‘06 avalanche with 215k miles and service history from prior owner documenting multiple starter replacements. If I had to take a guess, I’d say GM starters are all around problematic, generally speaking.
