What an incredible day it was. A great turnout from our Camaro family and wonderful memories for all involved. Here is a quick video of the event.

As I posted over on Camaro6.com...
OMG !!!! We nailed it good. We hit a GRAND SLAM right out of the park !!! I was told that in the beginning, they were simply looking for a Camaro they could rent for the day. Then a cousin told them, 'I got this' and started spreading the word. A short time later they told the parents, OMG you won't believe how many cars they found. How many. Guess. Maybe 7? No, more like 10 !. No way. WAY. In the end there were I think FIFTEEN from out club, 2 or 3 that the family had found , and 3 or 4 from the Eastern Michigan Camaro Club. Around TWENTY or so showed up. Even the police were awed, they had never counted on THAT many cars. Somehow word got to a local person that has a Bumblee entire costume. When he heard of it, he said I'M IN ,. Hudson, the 5-yar boy with brain cancer is a die-hard Bumble fanatic, so that thrilled him to no end. As we left the parking lot (Grosse Pointe police escort), we stopped to pick Hudson up. As we approached his house I noticed yellow ribbons adorning the trees on both sides of the street. They had a small celebration at the house, it was a total surprise to Hudson. We then drove through the neighborhood over to the elementary school Hudson just graduated from, and the entire school was lining the road cheering him on. Seemed like 200 children. We then drove past the elementary school he'll be attending next year, and once again, the entire school was lining the street cheering Hudson on, holding Hudson Strong signs up, It was AWESOME to see. I almost lost it. I had to stop and pause for a moment before I could continue on. At the edge of Grosse Pointe, the police could go no further so the State police stepped in and escorted us all the way to Beaumont Royal Oak at 13mile & Woodward. We parked in front of the Neuroscience building where Hudson had come to get his final Proton treatment. Big reception in the lobby by the hospital staff. Then Hudson got the opportunity to 'Ring the bell' to celebrate his progress. They had a buffet all set up to feed everyone, And I heard them playing a video greeting someone had sent in. Turns out it was none other than Mark Wahlburg (sp?) himself! AND it turns out Mark Wahlburg is the one responsible for catering the event.!! The press was there, I can't remember but I thing it was channel 4 ?? After leaving Beaumont we headed out to James-Martin Chevrolet where I thought Becky was going to give Hudson a Camaro pin. (yes we had a police escort again the entire way). Turns out they had much more for Hudson. They gave him a LARGE bag just filled with toys of all kinds with a Transformers theme. You should have seen the smile on him. From ear to ear. After that, they led Hudson over to a 'cash box'. You've see it on game shows in the past. Turns out it was there from a promotion the dealership had going. If you buy a new car, you get to enter the booth while a big fan blowes money all around you and you ve so many min to grab as much as you can. They let Hudson go in the cash box and grab as much as he could! Didn't have to buy a car or anything. He had the time of his life grabbing all he could. I was watching from a short distance away, and just figured all the money were probably one dollar bills. I discovered afterwards, that no, they were ones, fives, tens, etc.!! With the help from a generous donor, Hudson (said he wqanted to buy some Legos), Hudson walked away with something like $132.00 !!! I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart EVERYONE that helped out today to bring a smile to Hudson as well as all of us. Thanks to our club, the Eastern Michigan Camaro Club, all the family members, the children at both schools, the entire staff at Beaumont, Everyone at James-Martin Chevrolet, Mark Whalburg, and of course the Men in Blue. Without there help a string of 20 Camaros would have never been able to make it to all the destinations. You have all made me damn proud to me a member of this club !!!! |
