Exclamation Is this dumb?

I'm finally at a point in my career and life (31 years old) that I can conformably afford a 1LE, problem is that my wife and I are expecting our first child in just a few months.

I'm coming from a 330i and I know that having 4 doors would be nice, but am I being unrealistic in getting a 2 door sports car when I've got a kid along the way? I've been looking at 2011-2013's Audi S4's and BMW M3's since they have sedans, but I'm still drawn to the 1LE... and have always loved the LS engines.

Any guys with kids here, make this work? How does a rear-facing infant car seat fit in that back seat?

Thanks guys!

Do you have another vehicle that could transport new baby and all his/her gear?
If yes, then it would probably be OK.

If not, then look at the Chevy SS. Basically a 4 door Camaro. You can get a stick in them, too.

I pulled into the BJs parking lot the other day (with another car). I saw a 5th gen Camaro enter the parking lot so I change my car's position to lurk (I was just hanging out in the car waiting for the shopper to finish shopping).

Then what caught me off guard was the man get out of the car and pop his seat forward. One little squirt jumped out and looked disappointed that he we was no longer in the Camaro. The dad took the other squirt out of his infant car seat and carried him in.

So yes, I have witnessed a confirmed sighting of a dad with kids using the Camaro for grocery shopping.

Much rather get groceries with the kids in the Camaro than an SUV any day..

I had a '86 Camaro when my first was born. It isn't a minivan, but we made due.

I have a 4 and a 6 yr old. They love riding in the "race car" aka camaro. But its not my DD and we have a 4 door CTS-V for the "family".

I bought my Camaro new in 2012, when my son was almost 1 year old.

This wasn't the smartest ide because I live in the NY area, and I learned that the hard way with the 1st snow storm we had.

The next year I bought a winter beater.

With that said, it was fine, a bit tight when he turned 4, but my son loves to ride in it. He falls asleep with the rhythm of the car shaking and the sound of the exhaust..... Its great if you can afford it.

If it will be your primary family car, I think it would probably be a bad idea. Getting a baby carrier in about out of the back is going to be a major PITA.

My 1LE is my daily driver and I have 2 boys (aged 9 and 7). They love it. I've taken long trips with the family (trunk is rather spacious), and they don't mind climbing in the back. They use boosters that have Latch connectors (http://www.amazon.com/Clek-Ozzi-Back...+booster+latch) and we are good to go.

But a rear-facing car seat is simply NOT going to work in this car. Nor will a true front-facing if you and your wife have longish legs and need the seats pushed back past the half-way point. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I have my first baby due in April and I bought a 1LE the very second she told me she was preggo... thought I better do it now before reality sets in. We do have an Escalade which will be the full time kid duty car. I can't imagine an infant car seat working in the Camaro, or even fitting one of these huge strollers in the trunk. I think for a weekend car no problem but for a daily with a baby... No go.

Remember with an M3 or S4, you're going to be spending probably in the range of 5x's as much for repairs or maintenance. Factor that in to your budget if you go that route.

I have a cheap truck for my daily and my 1LE for the weekend fun car. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Many years ago when my sister and I were tots the only family vehicle my parents had was a 67 Camaro. Do it man. All though the M3 is sweet.

If it's going to be the primary vehicle for the child don't do it. It will be more of a hassle than it is worth. I know there are others on here that will say they do it, but not comfortably. I went through the same thing when I bought my 2005 Pontiac GTO. We had a newborn on the way. It became such a headache after a few months we sold it and I put myself into the unthinkable... A minivan. If I were you I would just hold out and wait until the child is in at least a booster seat. It will take the joy out of the car. That is just my 2 cents, so from there you can do what you want.
