Anyone have this overheating issue...

When I'm in traffic my car will overheat excessively at times. Doesn't happen all the time but only sometimes when I'm in stop and go traffic. It's pretty weird too because it's acted up on days where it wasn't even that hot out. Last time it happened the temp gauge pretty much damn near pinned all the way to the right and the car told me to shut it down. I pulled off in a parking lot and let it cool down for a few, started it back up, and it was doing it again. This time I cranked the heater and that brought it back to normal and then I was out of traffic and it was fine. Wondering if my thermostat is getting stuck. The fans are coming on so that's not the issue. Anyone else have this problem? Maybe I need to put a lower degree thermostat in the car being that I live in Texas and it doesn't really get all that cold out here. Any suggestions?

Make sure it's full of coolant.

if it's stop and go traffic, I'd check if the electric fan is turning on/off

Like other said, check coolant level. A small leak can be very hard to find. you could do a pressure check. If that's good, then I'd be thinking thermostat.

I doubt it's the thermostat. Check your coolant level first. If that's fine, I'd look at the cooling fans and the circuit that controls them.

Alright, just got my car back from the dealer and just like everyone was saying, the coolant was low. The problems seems to be solved now. Hope this helps. Good luck!
