Thanks Guys,

That's hauling ass but this is a "base" ZL1 with the A10 = the fastest variation for top speed/highway use. Originally this was for ZL1 1LE's which have their own variation of the M6 and have lots of aero parts and very wide tires, overly so on the front for top end purposes. Would be very impressive if a ZL1 1LE could do 190+ in owners hands.

The standard ZL1 M6 struggles to reach its top speed in any reasonable distance because the engine rpm/power isn't quite enough.

The ZL1 1LE has a different 6th gear ratio compared to the standard ZL1, enabling it to have higher engine rpms in the 170-200 rpm range, therefore it should be able to hit its top speed of 191 mph or whatever it is.

The final drive ratio is the same for both cars (M6).
I don't think it has anything to do with the red bolded statement "engine rpm/power isn't quite enough."

I think it has more to do with the gear ratio of 6th gear in the manual zl1. If you can get a shorter gear in there, you can hit 190+ in 6th gear.

Well obviously it's because of the gear ratio being too tall. Mr. W was speaking from the perspective that you already assumed that and assumed that changing the gear ratio wasn't an option. So he is in fact correct, the engine rpm/power isn't enough for the final drive ratio of the standard ZL1's M6 6th gear.

Yeah...but that's not quite the inference of his statement.

I get he is saying because the gear is too tall; therefore, there is not enough engine power to get to 190+ mph.

However the way that it was written, you can draw the conclusion that the zl1 does not have the power to reach 190+ mph; which is a false statement.
