It's Built & I need Some Advice
I currently have a 2008 Velocity Yellow Z51 coupe, but I am new to the forum. My Torch Red Z51 Coupe is built and I will do a museum delivery on Dec 28th. Do I fly to Bowling Green and drive it back or do I drive the F150 up there and trailer it back on a UHaul car carrier? Driving it back may be an issue if the weather is bad, not to mention putting 900 mostly interstate miles on a new motor drivng it back to Houston. Will there be clearance issues loading it on a car carrier? Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Sir, I say fly in and drive it back. That'll give you the chance to gauge first impressions (ie MPG, comfort, features, etc). 900 miles is a good range for that. I did a 700 mile Vegas trip a few weeks after I got mine. That was the time I really got to experience it outside of day to day driving. Good luck, congrats, and enjoy!

Forget the "new motor" thing - the car is fine...go get it - drive it back, it's a blast...

If you fly, you would land at Nashville where one of the major car rental agencies (Enterprise?) has a one way deal for those taking a Museum delivery.
I do not know about the C7 but based on experience with lowered cars (and the C7 rolls out of the plant lowered compared to a Malibu, say) you will need lots of wood to get the car on the carrier without shredding something. It seems to me if you change gears often while on the highway to vary your rpms and are cautious about hard braking when stopping to fuel or eat you will be ok and if the weather turns adverse there are motels along the way to stop until conditions improve. I agree with the others - I drove mine the 350+ miles from the Museum to my home and loved every foot of the trip! Just vary your speed, don't use the cruise control, don't run it over 4000 rpms, and all should be fine. I can't think of a better way to break in the motor than a 900 mile road trip!

I say drive it back from the Museum, that's what I'm doing when I pick up my car on Dec 16th. You may want to change your delivery date by a few days since the plant is closed Dec 19 - Jan 3. The VIP tour of the plant is one of the best benefits of the Museum delivery.

Just got back from my VIP Tour and got to say seeing my baby built was great!! and having the chance to be the first to turn it on wow!! I was at the plant for three days and I recommend it!! I live in San Francisco and I did not drive it back I should have since now I have to wait for it to be shipped and I have no idea when. Does anyone know what is the average wait?

I agree with the break in period on the highway. Easiest way to vary RPM without the constant stop and go. No trailer.
