Bigger question is why have a snow/ice mode when the car comes with summer-only tires.

With decent tires, and especially snow tires like Blizzaks, the Camaro does pretty well less than horrible conditions.

LOL OP apparently has no clue about driving in snow or the fact a Camaro is NOT 2 inches off the ground.
It's all tires and skill. AWD adds to the skill. Snow mode helps minimize wheel spin and maintain better traction, also enhancing skill. So yes OP, people DD Camaros all winter. My SS sedan did wonderfully this winter and we had huge amounts of snow.

I daily drive a 04 GTO in Wisconsin. Two sets of factory rims. One with summer tires and the other with true winter tires. My rear driver car with winter tires is better in 6" of snow than my wife's FWD with all season tires.
Plus... Its doesn't snow every day. We might get six to eight heavy events per year and only a percentage of those happen during rush hours.

because even after the snowplows come through, theres snow on the ground, and sometimes it thaws and refreezes in to ice.
Would I drive it in 6" of snow? Hell no. Would I drive it on 1/4" of snow after the plows come through? Yep. Yep I would. |

The snow setting would probably be pretty good for heavy rain fall too. Rain can accumulate on roads very quickly and leave you with a less than ideal traction situation.
