Supercharge my v6 or upgrade to v8?

This won't be until next spring when I bring the car out from hibernation but I was thinking of either supercharging my V6 or selling/trading and getting a V8. Would just like some opinions from you guys and any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It depends on what you are looking for. If you want the power and it is in your means to trade up I would do that. I own a V6 and personally would not spend the thousands to put a supercharger on it. You get more for your money by trading up (better suspension, brakes, better future upgrades, etc).

Well........

The V6 crowd will say S/C your car!

The V8 crowd will say don't waste your time and trade up.

It all depends on you personally.

For me I have too much invested in the car and love the way it handles. I plan on buying the IPF S/C very soon and then I'll be good. I'll have basically a V6 1LE with all the mods I've added below shown in my signature. I don't have any desire to create a 700+ HP car. As a full time DD the stock V6 are hard to beat on MPG + fun factor.

If you only have a few simple bolt on mods to your car now I would say trade up if it makes since finically. The V8 is a great car the you can mod the hell out of it. The upper end HP mods are endless on the 5th Gen. But I do see a lot of 700+ HP V8 cars that are never driven. If you want a lightly DD then a stock SS with some exterior mods is awesome.

I drive a V6 and plan on trading up in the future. I figure that a bolt on v8 is probably more reliable than a F/I v6.

Some like the V6, some don't. One thing I want is great sound and the V8 with exhaust has that. No matter what you do to the V6, no matter how much HP it makes, it still sounds like a V6. In other words, I prefer the V8. As far as fuel mileage goes it's all relative to what youre used to driving. I grew up with V8 cars and trucks and most of my daily drivers are V8 silverados so getting 20+mpg is good to me. My truck lowered on the open highway gets on average 22-25mpg. It's a 2wd 5.3.

And after you trade up for the V8, you'll want to supercharge that as well....

I'm lucky in that I have both a supercharged V6 and a V8. With just a CAI and tune, my V8 was faster than my V6 by 0.1 seconds. Unless you are dead set on keeping your V6 (mine is a 2010 Synergy Green Edition), trade to a V8.

I'm waiting to see what will be offered on the 6th Gen before I spend any more money on mine. If the new car turns out to be as good as the rumors sound then I will save up and eventually trade up. Hopefully it will be revealed at the January Detriot car show so we don't have to wait much longer...

If your out for more power, then go for the v8 if the only choice is Supercharging the V6. Now if u wanted the best of both worlds. The gas mileage of the v6, but the performance for racing of the v8, then go Nitrous. 1st off, its way cheaper, 2nd only hurts gas mileage when using it, and only gets expensive if you are having your bottle constantly filled. Personally i might spend $200 a year max in refills. 3rd, you will see alot of the nitrous guys going faster then the Supercharged.

Dont get me wrong, there are some drawbacks to nitrous, but if setup properly and used wisely its a good alternative to buying the v8. Obviously if gas mileage isnt a concern you can mod the v8 to go faster then the v6. Just wanted to throw another alternative out there. Personally, i plan to keep this car and hopefully do a 50th Anniversary edition when they become available. Hopefully the HP will be in the 600 range and price below $65k
