My conversation with a salesman - ZL1

So I was e-mailing a salesman about possibly trading in my 2010 2SS. Not that I would ever pay a dealer markup, but I think he's trying to pull one over on me. Here's our conversation:

Him:

Hi Guy,
My name is ######## and I wanted to thank for your inquiry on the 2014 Camaro.
Stock# E9802278 2014 Chevrolet CAMARO ZL1 New Ashen Gray Metallic
MSRP $ 70,719.
Less -$ 3,500.
Your Price $ 67,219.

Please call me to arrange a test drive

Me:

Hello Sir:

A few questions...

Your website shows this car for $65,719. You quote my price for $2000 higher. Can you explain the difference, please?

Does your price include a dealer markup?

How do you guys do test drives in these types of cars this time of year?

Thank you.

Guy

Him:

Hi Michelle,

Thank you for your reply, sorry for the confusion there is a $5K Dealer markup on this Camaro as it is a very limited production Camaro and is projected to be a valuable collector in time.

The test drives would be weather permitting, when would you like to come in and take a look?

Best Regards,

########

My question to the forum: Limited production? Valuable Collector? Really?

The email address they have in their system is tied to the misses's name (this is why he called me Michelle), since she bought her truck there brand new in 2007, but I make sure all the maintenance gets done. Maybe he thinks I'm her and don't know any better. Anyway, just thought I'd share...

Sounds like he is being a douche salesman. Someone just posted that they got their ZL1 for very significant discount so I don't see how a markup can apply. If you are limited on dealers in your area, I'm sure a CONUS dealer will ship you one.

I wouldn't pay that much. He maybe referring to color and options but I didn't buy my car to sit in a garage and marginally offset inflation in 20 yrs.

If you're serious about the ZL1, pick up the phone or go in person. Everyone is wasting their time in this email exchange.

Your title said "conversation with a salesman"

It is very enticing, they have had that AGM ZL1 at Alaska Sales for awhile.

Yeah, they have. I think it's been there since the spring.

Hard to believe any dealer would ask for a ADM on a ZL1, I would think a substantial discount would be possible, theres no shortage of them.

There are lots of people out there working the wrong job as a sales person or who are working the right job but at a greedy dealership.

I've ran into sales staff like the OP has in this thread and they are legion. The key to minimizing this is to actually visit the dealership rather than try to bargain by email.

In the sales person's defense, they have no way of knowing how serious you really are unless you are in the flesh. It's just when they are clearly out of touch with the market or do not know their product that I really get annoyed.

And still, there are many that do not! Be patient and if at is a car you are interested in, at least visit the dealership and ask for the sales manager if you need to. You just never know when you got Salesman Joe's first day as a car salesman!

I was checking the date to see whether this thread was from a couple of years ago. Are you kidding???? I was in a bidding war when I shopped ZLs a year ago. Dealers can't give them away fast enough. This is a very naive dealer if they're trying to get a mark-up on the ZL this late in the game.

The ADM is likely the reason they still have the car. Idiots.
