Just stay in 1st for a little longer. No need to shift to 3rd...

A simple SKIP SHIFT kit will eliminate the lock out that you might be getting. It should not void any warranty, but I would suggest removing the kit if you take the car in for trans warranty work.

The message on the dash stays on too long. Once you reach a certain speed, the gate opens but the message remains.

It does block 2nd AND 3rd, but does not block 3rd consistently. Sometimes it will still let you in, sometimes it wont unless you wait a split second.

I installed my skip shift eliminator, and love it. It shouldn't void your warranty as it in no way should do any damage to your tranny, but it is still considered a tranny mod, so it all depends on the dealer i suppose.

unfortunately the ZL1 has it too. I just went ahead and installed the Skip Shift eliminator and was done with it.

Install the eliminator harness! Tight fir for the upper connector, but I did it easily my garage. Cheap and easy, first thing I did to my car.

And yes, I thank the engineer who put this in to avoid the gas guzzler tax.

I was looking into getting a manual LS or LT1 vehicle for a while(Vette, camaro & CTS). I always assumed i would need to get the skip shift eliminator. As soon as i got my 1LE i had to drive it 100 miles home on back roads, so i could adhere to the break-in manual. The entire 2hr drive i didn't run into the skip shift. After 3K miles i still don't run into it, during my daily driving of the car. That includes getting good fuel economy and when in heavy traffic using light throttle.

So far i don't see a reason to get the eliminator.

I can put mine into 3rd no problem when below 20 mph

The Phastek eliminator was the first "mod" I bought for the 2SS. But going on three months of ownership I still have not installed it yet.

I might take some heat for saying this, but after living with it, I don't really mind the Skip Shift feature as much as I thought I would. And yes, it kicks in for me pretty much every time I drive the car. Sometimes I even try to engage it. The reason I say that is that I live in a suburban area and don't do a lot of highway driving. In fact, my commute to work is all 25 to 35 mph speed limit, with 17 traffic lights on a 6 mile route. So there's really no spirited driving happening there. And consequently, I'm just looking to maximize the fuel economy. No doubt you do save gas shifting 1-4, as long as you're not lugging it.

Track days will happen once I'm past the break-in mileage, but when driving around town, I'm okay with the skip shift doing its thing. I kind of like it actually.

45longcolt, which brand cable did you buy. I bought one for my 2018 and the connector was different. Mine was a muzzy.

Same here. Never have an issue putting it in third when 2nd is locked out.
