I really like the Tavor, very smooth shooting, very natural ergo's with very minimal recoil. The only thing I've shot that compared to it in handiness was an MP5. The Tavor uses a long stroke gas piston like an AK and has good reliability. I was concerned about the noise but with the A2 flash hider it doesn't seem any louder than my 16" AR-15. This is not a good picture but gives you idea of the Tavor overall length. The Tavor has a 16 1/2 " barrel compared to my 16" AR. The stock on the AR is one position short of being fully extended. I was a LEO for 10 years, I carried a Glock31 but Glock was what I was introduced to when I first started LE. I am also very proficient with a 1911, alot of officers carry 1911s as their duty weapon.

Anyone have a S&W Shield either 40 or 9mm? Would like your thoughts on it, this is what my wife wants.

Held a demo Shield the other day, sweet gun, everything felt perfect. The only knocks I've heard about it is - kind of easy to accidentally engage the safety. Has a very positive notch to the safety release, but a hair too easy to engage the safety by mistake in a jacket pocket/holster rub. If you prefer to conceal and carry ready to fire. You don't want to be surprised by a safety being on, when you thought it was off and ready to fire at a bad guy. I will still buy one, and practice always thumbing the safety off on a draw. Just in case it's on. They seem so popular, I can't find a 9mm Shield anywhere. Anybody know a good online FFL gun dealer that can sell to a MI resident? What websites have most had the best luck with online firearm sales? |

Nothing wrong with a 9mm, but certainly nothing wrong with a .40. The best caliber for a person is the one that they can shoot accurately and be comfortable with. The best thing to do is let her shoot a few different guns in different calibers and let her decide which one she wants. Never assume that a woman can not control a larger caliber handgun, hell my wife is 5'6 and around 125lbs and prefers a .45acp

Finally found a 9mm S&W Shield last night and bought it. Shot about 25 rds through it at the range and love it. Fits my hand perfect, and love how slim it is. Going to be the perfect carry gun for me for summer clothes when I want something real small. Glock 19 for most other situations.
I like the 9 in this Shield and in a gun this small. I shot the 40 version as a rental from the range before buying the 9 and the recoil bugged me, just a bit too snappy for my comfort. A more experienced shooter might like the 40. But for my purpose and comfort a 9 mm will work perfect. I think they fixed the safety issue also, my new one has a nice solid click/detent for safety on and off. I'm lucky that I have a range near me that rents tons of different guns, so I'm always trying different stuff and finding what works best for me. Often the gun I think I have my mind set on, will have some weird quirk I don't find until actually range firing one. Rented a new Glock 42 also yesterday. New pocket Glock. I think a hair smaller than the Shield. My hand was more comfortable on the Shield, I liked the pinky extension on the shield mag which the Glock doesn't have. Very interesting new little Glock though. I think Glock fans will like it as a backup or small conceal. I just don't like my pinky hanging off the end though, and no extensions avail yet. Not avail in 9 mm yet either. |

Cheaper than dirt has both, 377.xx, locally they are 450.00. I talked to my range and they said that they cannot even get close to that number. 20 bucks to them for paperwork.
I have not ordered hers yet, she prefers the 40 which is fine with me, seems 9mm is still hit and miss to acquire. I have the XDS 45 and really like it, however after feeling the Shield I probably would have got one for myself. The Shield feels thinner and a lighter. Can't wait to compare the two side by side. Congrats you yours also!

It's amazing... with the factory scoop its definitely not the best for accuracy but its definitely one of the best guns to shoot. Even though we dont take it out for value reasons haha.
