A $800 rise in your insurance rates sucks over 6 months that's a rise of $133.33 a month for having a accident for how long....... That adds up, drive more carefully with the car as it looks nicer now.

Assuming that my insurance rate doesn't decrease after my premium ends (I'll be shopping around for a cheaper rate regardless, so I doubt it), it would take 15 months for the increase in insurance to equal the price that I would have paid to have the work done myself if I didn't get into an accident.

I'm ok with that, and lesson learned.

Car looks great!

Insurance has a long memory. In my state it's limited to three years, but others are different, generally longer.

It's good they did not cancel you though, so you can still shop around and look for a better rate.
