Lump me right in; I noticed when I took a test drive and said as much to our salesperson upon completing my little trip.

I mostly detect it when going slow and warming things up; clunks 'n thunks I suppose are part of the whole-car concept.

(Which I've not really lost a lot of sleep over, truth be told.)

Drivetrain slack

I found that if you clutch before you decelerate you won't feel or hear the slack.

Thanks so much guys -- I heard back from the service manager and he said there are 18 camaros on the lot, none are a V8 manual! So, he'd like to have me bring it in and test drive mine with the shop foreman.

I'm fine with that; he also said that my other issue -- my front (I believe) brakes are squeaking when slowing to a stop; it's annoying bc the car is new (not worn pads I mean) so he siad that he's checked out information and can't find out why they are squeaking, so as a good will thing he's going to replace the pads if I want.

I have to say, so far I think I made the right decision with this dealer. I'm impressed with them

I get this also. It happens at slow speeds and I believe the ''slack'' explanation

Is this unique to the V8?

Just spotted this thread. My manual SS does this too. Only around parking lot speeds though, and usually if I clutch in while off throttle. I used to get this in my Corvette (2005) also. Actually, the Vette's clunk was more noticeable.

The slack is normal and very noticeable cruising through a parking lot. It's kind of embarrassing when you roll past a bunch of pedestrians, then make that sound like your driveshaft fell out. Usually pressing the clutch before letting off the throttle will reduce this.
The brake squeal is also "normal". These pads and rotors seem to glaze easily. A few "aggressive" speed reductions (from 60 to 30) will eliminate it for awhile. You can try aftermarket pads, like ceramics, which will also reduce the brake dust on your rims.

My V6 M6 is doing this. Based on this thread there is no point in taking to dealer. I just had 1st oil change done at Goodyear so this clunk was a reason to do another stop next time I was near a dealer. Guessing I have free time now to do sethig else besides be at dealer.

Every stick shift I have ever owned has done this.....it is the slack in the drivetrain, some are better, some are worse.

Drive Line Slop

Yes I have it too. Had a Pedders Dealer replace cradle bushings and most of the sloppiness is gone.
